Ok, let s start by saying that I understand how tow truck drivers can be such vultures. I was a tow truck driver at one time. That being said, how does an apartment complex set it policy for towing visitors at 6pm during the work week' How are tenants to have guests over' You might ask where the visitor is to park' Did you know that there are 48 visitor parking spots at Oakton Park' That is 48 visitor parking spots for hundreds of apartments! Most of the visitor parking is taken by tenants of the apartment complex. Now, the tenants that I was visiting told me for the last year and a half that the towing did not start till midnight. I had my car out of Oakton Park apartments at 11:30 pm sharp each and every time. It is now obvious that the tenants either were misinformed or didn t really know. I am guessing that they were misinformed because of my experience with dealing with the management staff. I had to ask 4 times what the policy was and was greeted with an angry person telling me that they had the right to tow me. I didn t disagree. I was just interested in finding out what the policy was. Oh, I was talking in a low tone and slow and just asked what the policy was.

I guess this rant about a piss poor parking policy and belligerent staff. If I was looking for a place to live, I would have to conceder if I wanted to have friends over with such an extreme parking policy! Oh, one more thing the towing company King Towing was a dumb vulture. There were 4 other cars next to mine that were not towed. I asked the lot manager Chuck why the other cars were not towed. He said that I was wrong and there could not be any more cars illegally parked or they would have got them. I guess I got lucky one of the other cars belonged to my girlfriend.

If you have friends that want to visit for the wonderful $125.00 dollar parking fee that Oakton Park apartments assesses for parking after 6pm go get an apartment! Oh, and Chuck told me that they are getting ready to raise the towing rates to $150.00 dollars. Well isn t that special!

Just something to conceder!

Manager's Response

It has always been Oakton Park's towing policy that towing can began any time after 6:00pm. We offer guest parking passes per resident request for any resident having visitors over for the evening which does allow a guest to park in a resident parking space. Though there are only 48 visitor spaces available for our community we had offset this by issueing guest passes. I'm sorry that you were misinformed by the person you were visiting concerning parking, but each resident signed a parking addendum stating that visitors can not park in resident spaces. As far as being addressed by an angry and belligerent staff member, I was sitting at her desk when you called and overheard her end of the conversation. She was not angry nor belligerent when she spoke with you, she was very professional and used a low tone of voice while trying to answer your question about the policy. I suggest that if you would like to vist your friends ask them to get a guest pass for you so that you can park legally. As far as King Towing raising their prices to $150.00 the state of Virginia raised the price to $150.00 for towing fees last July 2007. The price increase would go into effect only if Fairfax County decide to implement the increase.

I was a former resident of Oakton Park and I have to agree with the gentleman above. While I was in the process of getting on to my friends lease, I had to park in visitor parking for a short time. It is 100% true that the visitor parking is usually taken up by people that are actually living at the complex (not on the lease). Secondly, it is 100% true that there are not enough visitor spots. Allow me to also respond to the manager. When I was having to park in visitor parking for a short time, I tried to go to the leasing office and obtain a visitor pass and they told me that they had "run out." To me, there are obvious flaws in parking policy. In that instance, there were no visitor parking spots available and no passes available, therefore I could not VISIT!!!I ended up having to park at the Best Western hotel that is a half of a mile up the street and walk down. No offense, but in that neighborhood, a woman walking down that street at night by herself is very dangerous. Thankfully, the staff at the hotel were nice enough to let me park there overnight and were very understanding of my situation (unlike the leasing office). I have worked in property management and I usually tend to agree with the manager's posts but I can not do so in this situation.

I am just getting back to read the comments to my post! To the Manager, You can try to candy coat your parking problem anyway you want, but it doesn???t change the facts. Your co-worker was rude to me. If they were not so defensive when asked what the parking policy was and answered the question the first time I would not had to ask 4 more times. After the 3rd time I was getting tired of asking. As for getting parking passes, how the hell is a tenant to get a parking pass on a Sunday or after 6 pm when you???re closed? Do you personally plan on having guest???s days in advance? Oh, and now I hear you run out of additional parking passes? My car has not even strayed into your parking areas since! I guess I should feel sorry for you having to deal with so many disgruntled visitors to your place of employment. Parking at Oakton Park apartments sucks! You cannot candy coat that!
