Beware if your neighbor is a pakistani/North Indian chef

We were happy here for the first few months until the pakistani chef moved in. They use 10 lbs of masala (pakistani/North Indian spices) in everything they eat, everyday. Even in their cereal! But joking aside, the insulation in this apartment is non-existent. Everything your neighbors cooks you will smell at full intensity. We've complained many times but the management tell us there's nothing they can do. As unbelievable as it is, the smell gets so bad that we go to the mall or for a walk when they cook or we have to leave the balcony and front door open to air out the place. Imagine that, we live in America yet we live like third-worlders.
P.S. We are ourselves -------, so we are not being racists here.

"We live like third-worlders???" Are you freaking kidding me? I used to work at the jefferson and I lived there during that time -- That is a "Class A" property... They are beautiful, clean apartments and the community has great amenities. Just because you are sensitive to what your neighbor is cooking, you should not be posting a negative review of the place online. This is a PERSONAL issue. Do you expect the management to go over and give your neighbors an "approved" list of foods this guy can prepare? Think about it. I would think that the only option they have is to move you to a different apartment. If I were you, (which I am so thankful I am not), I would talk to your neighbor and jokingly ask what he is cooking, and if he could use the fan or something. Hell, if he is a professional chef, whatever he is cooking is probably amazing. It is a shame that you would post something like this... You know, it really shows how intolerant and unaccepting you are. And I am an upper class white woman! My suggestion to you is to take a look around, stop to appreciate everything you have in life, be grateful that you have the opportunities you do and are not TRULY living in a third world country.

I have lived the The Jefferson at Fair Oaks for two years now and I totally agree with this posting...but there really is nothing you can do about it unfortunately! I agree with maybe asking your neighbor to tone it down or use the fan above the oven. The problem is, these spices and fish oil smells are so powerful that they permeate the walls, my clothes and furniture. The apartment complex should have better insulation between apartments, or better venting so that one apartment's smell doesn't seep in to another. Air purifiers help a little. But I do feel the (nasal) pain of this poster!

wow, i was just considering moving here but if it means living alongside racists like yourself (and BTW what you wrote is very racist/xenophobic, then forget about it. I'm not even indian, I was born and raised here and eat an average american diet but wow, you sound like a jerk! its one thing to complain about the insulation but to add the third world comment and all?!? this is what you sound like 'This is America baby! out here you can only cook hamburgers and fries or else you're wrecking our country and should be deported.' you sound worse than Lou Dobbs. if you're that against diversity and so pro regulation then A) Move to an isolated town in the midwest and buy a house B) Buy an Island and kick out all the natives or C) Move to a communist country- but then again, that would subjugate you to being a foreigner and thus force you to be treated as badly as you treat your indian friends....or worse!

Racist? Man, you people are ignorant. Having a problem when your neighbors stink up the entire complex is by no means "racist." My neighbors were Egyptians, -------, and Asians. They are all nice people, but the Egyptians have brought bed-bugs, and cockroaches to the apartments. (The have since been kicked out.) Yes, it was them. Yes, they were kicked out for it. This is fact, not racism. The Indian neighbors cook (fortunately they do it while I'm at work, so I seldom get the brunt of it) using an insane amount of the spices that permeate the entire apartment. I have had days where I had to literally hold my breath while climbing three flights of stairs to keep from gagging. This is not racism, this is fact. Do you people even know the DEFINITION of racism? I mean come ON. Obviously, many people have the same problem. If a person's apartment is causing such a stench that all the neighbors take issue with it, then there's a problem. Whether that stench be the smell of a rotting body, or overly spiced food, the source of the smell doesn't matter. The fact is if it's so overpowering as to run their neighbors out of their own home, then there IS a problem, and it is NOT racism to address it.
