It's the safest place around

I've been here for about nine months. It's sad that rent is very expensive here, but honestly---all the apartments are just as expensive in this area. I've looked everywhere in the region. If you want to pay maybe a hundred dollars less, you can move into other apartment (east meadows) not far away that are about to go ghetto very soon and possibly have your car stolen, deal with mold problems, experience bugs galore, and hear everything your neighbor does in the apartment next to you because the walls and floor are so thin.
What is upsetting the most overall is when I see people complaining about how pricey things are, yet they NEVER mention an alternative besides buying a house. All the homes are minimum of 300-400k, and that's for a condo. Some of us just aren't ready to buy. I wanted something safe and this is the safest apartment complex around. The gates are always locked. The other apartment complexes nearby keep their gates open during the rush hours, but not this one.
A few caveats:
-The area is being heavily built-up around here. You can always hear the traffic outside, at least where I am. Perhaps in the center of the complex or further away from main roads the noise isn't as evident. It's like a substitution to ocean waves because this is the area where everyone is moving into new condos and townhouses. There are even some new ones being built right across the street from the complex. That will increase traffic I'm sure. There's nothing the apartment complex can do about it, but consider it a forewarning nonetheless.
-If you have an overstuffed sofa that is large with a tall back on it, be prepared to sell it and get something else. Take measurements to make sure it will fit through the doorway. I loved my sofa, but couldn't get it in the apartment and had to get rid of it. Another neighbor passing by said the same thing happened to him. Because there's a wall directly inside the apartment and facing you as you walk inside and the door's also a bit narrow, you'll have to get a sofa with a short back on it. Management felt really bad about it and 2 of them showed up to help me try and fit it through the door, but it still didn't get through the door. I've never found management that outgoing towards their residents. They were awesome. That signaled to me that I moved into the right place.
