Don't Move In Here!!!

We have lived here for four years only because it's been relatively inexpensive for the area. But now that our income has gone up, we can not wait to get out. The worst thing about living here is that I am embarrassed by the condition and won't have my friends over because I don't want them to think I approve of living like this. When I walk down the hallway on my floor towards my apartment, I very nearly gag from the disgusting smell. Neighbors not only smoke incessantly, but their is a vile moldy smell in the air that I can only guess is mold from a sloppy carpet cleaning job.

I have nothing good to say about this place. The carpet is vile--whole sections were not properly put down so that you see the seam next to the wall. The walls are cracking in places where the drywall does not lie flush, and in a few other random spots. The AC units are so noisy that I worry about hearing damage and would much rather swelter in the quiet than be cool and not be able to hear the tv, music, my husband, myself think--whatever. The water here smells funny and the showerhead attachments are so old that you can't get them off to put on a filter. Prepair to have especially damanged and stripped hair if you live here. And it seems that once a month they're turning off water to fix something or other. I can't imagine how unhealthy that is for the older residents who stay home all day. The fixtures are ancient, which normally I wouldn't mind because they are serviceable, but it's just one more ugly thing that makes me depressed to come "home" at night. The bathroom in a one bedroom with balcony is *tiny.* If you have a cat, the catbox will take up all the available space and you won't be able to shut the door. The office will send out occassional notices about keeping certain things off your balcony to maintain a "neat" apperance for people visiting who might be interested in renting, but don't seem to do anything about the broken blinds (like seriously falling apart--have been for months and nothing has been done to fix them) that grace some of the windows.

There are no amenities. No exercise room; the pools are so small they're just a waste of water and energy to maintain, not fun at all, and are hardly ever open besides; and the laundry machines are disgusting and cheap--like the cheapest of the cheap--so they're always breaking (oh, and because of the extra maintenance the building has to pay for on such cheap machines; they raised the prices of the dryers).

Somebody here who keeps their windows open when it's warm has a child that spends a good portion of each day screaming.

Wow...can't believe we live in the same building. I'm on the 7th floor and absolutely love my place. I can't say enough about the staff, my neighbors, the fact that I've never heard so much as a PEEP from anyone above, below or next to me. And just how bad is it to raise the price of dryers by $.25? SERIOUSLY? Go complain about the price of gas rather than the fact that you can wash and dry a load of clothes for $3.00...oops, my mistake, $2.75.

I have lived at Cavalier for around 10 years and I know that your experience will vary depending on your neighbors. One thing I do like is that maintenance requests are handled in a quick manner. If you complain about noisy neighbors the manager will do something about it. The apartments in general are clean but run down and they use cheap parts to fix things. I am staying here until I can afford to buy my own place soon.
