Don't live here

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2004
I've lived in Fairfax Towers for 2 years, and it's been a year too long. The first year it was great. We had no problems with anyone, the concierge was always welcoming and friendly. The apartment we moved into for the 2nd year had old carpets and very loud, old w/d unit. We fought for 6 months to get the carpets replaced. The w/d was never fixed/changed. We also had/have stains on our walls from leaking a/c units. Some they have fixed, painted, some are still there. Our phone calls to management were not returned, and the office is only open from 9-5, Monday through Friday. As we both have jobs, it was impossible to get a meeting with the management. The night concierges disappear for long periods of time, and even when they are there, they are sleep 1/2 the time. It is supposed to be a gated community... one of the gates is permanently stuck open, 24 hours a day (gates are supposed to close at 10PM).
The store, while convenient, is overpriced, and the selection isn't very good. To give them credit though they did stay open during power outtages from Hurricane Isabel and during snowstorms.
Parking is ok, and the pool is decent, and they have a cute BBQ area in the back.
Out of 4 elevators, 2 work on a regular basis, and they are all very slow. Might as well take the stairs most of the time (healthier for you anyway).
Twice now they have told us that we underpaid our rent, months ago no less (you'd think they'd notice something like that right off), and wanted us to pay the difference. We had cancelled checks to prove that 2 out of the 3 months we paid the entire balance. Also the 3rd month, I paid with a money order, which they then LOST! They contacted me about it 8 MONTHS later. I had to pay for October's rent TWICE because of this.
They are extremely overpriced, for the quality of the apartments. The last straw was when we went for renewal, and said, "We've been here 2 years, loyal tenants, and perhaps you could give us a concession, as you have the previous 2 years'" Management's answer - "The housing market is really good right now, we don't need you."
