Excellent place to live in

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2009
Usually, we only write negative feedbacks when we are not happy with something. I decided to write a review on something I was happy with.
I live in Fairfax Towers and been there for over 3 years. Like any apartment complex, there is the good, the bad and the ugly. Most of us lived in apartments for most of our adult life, and I guess we have seen it all.
With Fairfax Towers, however, I did not have any "ugly" kind of experience. So far, it has been an excellent place to live.
Here are some of the things I like in here:
- The parking lot is huge, if you are expecting to find a place near the building entrance, at all times, that wouldn't be a reasonable expectation. Guests (visitors) and residants use the same parking lot (permit is needed for guests staying after 8pm). A lot of other apartment complexes have "special" guests parking lots that are usually the farthest, and only few are available, but not at Fairfax Towers.
- The staff working there has been pretty much the same for years: this is not the kind of residence where you will see new faces every couple of months, and they don't know anything about something another ex-staffer told you about. They have been there, they know you by name, and you know them. From the receptionist (Rosetta has been there for over 7 years, and she is so helpful), to the maintenance staff, to the leasing people. That is a sign it is a stable place, having low staff turnaround.
- Maintenance: as soon as you report an issue, there is a whole process with follow up: usually you get maintenance the same day fixing things, they have a fair inventory of everything they need, so I never heard "oh we have to order this part for you, it will be there in a week". You get also a follow up call from the front desk, after the maintenance is performed to check if you are happy with it or if something is still not working well.
- Gym: for my first two years, never been to the Gym. The only time I have been there was when I was first show the building. However, starting from February, I started going there daily. It is conveniant, and have a variety of equipment (5 treadmills). Don't try to go there between 8-10 pm as is it is usually full. The gym is open 24 hours (not like some other places where it closes early). But because it is just downstairs, it helped me convince myself to start working out. 75 pounds lost so far, still about 30 to go (but that is a different story :-) ).
- Swimming pool: fairly large, but been there only once.
- Tennis court: they have few tennis courts, used them two times. The only problem I see with those is that access is not controlled: Unlike the rest of the building, where you need to use your card/fob, the Tennis courts are open, so I have seen a lot of times (when parking) people walking in from outside and going to play there
- Apartment quality: the apartments are nice, spacious. I have a two bedrooms. I wouldn't recommend going on the upper floors, as there is a premium for each floor up, it is not worth it. We have 2 "refuse" per floor, to throw the garbage in, which is practical. I hated, in previous apartment complexes, going out of my apartment building with my garbage bags to the large trash bins.
- Building maintenance: they have staff cleaning and maintaining the property daily. So it is always looking good.
- Mail: I never missed a package where I had to contact FedEx or UPS and find a way to get out of work and go pick up a package because I missed their delivery: they get the mail for you, leave you a note on your mailbox, and you pick the mail and boxes when coming back from work, I love that as I receive tons of packages.
- The quality of people living here: Rent is relatively high, so it kinds of filter who lives here. You don't have to be super rich, but the kind of people living here are usually white collars, below their 40s. Usually couples with no children or with few young children.
- Storage: there are plenty of storage space, in the building, available to rent. I think each apartment should have come with its assigned storage space, but it is not the case, you have to pay for a storage space (there are two sizes to select from, I have the large one, for $30 a month)
while each of us might find a thing or two they don't like, it really depends on the person. Unless you decide to buy your own house and manage everything on your own, there will always be things you don't like when renting. However, in my opinion, Fairfax Towers has been the most convenient apartment complex to live in. lGjq8RUBjvsZjkb5ueji
