Happy Resident

My wife and I moved into Fairfax county last fall and were looking for something fairly affordable but also comfortable. We have found Fairfield Crossing (living in a 1 bedroom den) to be a good place to live overall. No place is perfect. We live on the mid level of our building, which in my opinion is better than a lower level apartment (probably more likelihood of flooding or bugs), but not as good as the 2nd level because there you have no sound from above. It is true that the floors can be creaky and you can hear people living above you. It has not been a major issue for me, and has not kept me up at night, but can be a minor irritation. On the positive side, maintanance has been very responsive. When we first moved into our apartment, within the first week we had a gas leak from our stove and our washer was failing. However, they quickly replaced both of these appliances with NEW ones. The maintenance men have generally been friendly and have even given us a cell number to call anytime.

With a couple exceptions, the front desk staff has been fairly pleasant.

The fitness center was just remodeled, though it still is small. I'm not much of a pool user, but it seems well-kept.

I really like the design/layout of the apartment, with a dining area separate from the living room (not just one big room). The closet space is WONDERFUL, with a walk-in closet almost big enough to be a small bedroom.

As far as safety goes, we have not had any major issues, though I know cars do get broken into occasionally. They have recently formed a Neighborhood Watch community.

Parking when coming back later in the evening (after 10:00) can be challenging, but it really depends on what building you live in. Some might mean you are walking a ways to your door; others, you can at times park right in front. They will tow visitors without parking passes (one of our friends was towed), but I think for those who follow the rules, it is reasonable.

Since we have been here for just about a year, I am hoping that the rates do not jump for the 2nd year after the initial "special" of the first year.
