RENT TOO HIGH, UPKEEP TERRIBLE, TOO MANY ROACHES

Years at this apartment: 1999 - 2002
The landlord decided to paint the hallways finally. However, my neighbor told me that they only got permission to paint 3 of the hallways. The other 4 stories, which are horrible, will remain unpainted. Rents are way too high for these apartments. The landlord shows no respect for his property.
There are many vacancies, probably due to the rental rates and the deplorable condition of the building. They charge for water usage.
The lesson I have learned about living in apartments is don't believe what you are being told about future improvements. If you see shoddy upkeep...it is a reflection of the landlord's opinion of the property. It won't get better, trust me.
Roach problem pretty bad. I have not had any in my bedroom yet, but my neighbors are over run with them and when the trash room light is turned on on our floor we have seen HUNDREDS scurrying away.
The ladies who work in the office are very nice and helpful. This building is old, and needs major rehabilitation. They run rent specials to attract tenants. However, renter beware. Once your in, the add-ons will kill you. We heard that they are trying to figure out how to charge us for electricity. I am going to buy a condo or a small townhouse in the next couple of months to try to control my housing costs.
This landlord gives NO GRACE PERIOD for monthly rent. I travel a lot and find that the stress of trying to remember to pay the rent by the first of the month to be another stress I don't want to deal with.
Too many negatives for living here and few positives...lots of closet space and big rooms.
