I highly suggest looking elsewhere for living premises.

As stated in my title, I would highly suggest looking elsewhere for living premises. As others have noted, the halls are not monitored so children do run and yell loudly through the halls at all times of the night. There is one security guard that sits downstairs, but he has no authority to do anything other than makes a citizens arrest. They don't even allow him access to the master keys in case residents lock themselves out of their apartment. They say that they have 24/7 on call maintenence, but what they don't tell you is that he lives an hour away. I recently had water damage to my apartment due to the negligence of another resident, and I had to wait for an hour for the maintenence guy to get here to try and prevent my ceiling from falling in. Even after the fixed the problem, there was no compensation for my lost time or property. They are also boardering very closely to the line of breaching their duties as a general tenant. I am a law student, and it is shocking to read about cases where tenants bring successful suits against their landlords for very similar things that take place in this apartment complex. For example, there were at least 7 days this past month where our water was completely shut off. This obvioulsy restricts the use and enjoyment of the property for the tenants, and there is statutory precedent of suits winning on such grounds. I am also personally upset by the fact, that the apartment chooses to change their policy without informing the tenants in advance. I moved into this apartment complex specifically because I have a small dog and was looking to get another dog, and Prestwick allowed cats and dogs. I recently found a second dog, and the adoption agency called to verify that pets were allowed. However, Prestwick informed them that they were no longer accepting pets. Needless to say, my husband and I will not be extending our lease next year. Finally, when we made the decision on Prestwick last April, we were told that by the time we moved in July our unit would have a washer and dryer. It is now mid-November and our apartment is still not even on the schedule to receive a washer and dryer. Overall, just don't beleive what they tell you.

Still no washer and dryers?! What a joke. My husband and I moved into the prestwick a year and a half ago (Sept. 08') and were told the washer and dryers should be getting installed in a month or two. We were only living at the Prestwick for two months and hated it. The building was full of cockroaches, loud kids, and our air conditioner never worked. Due to the brutal rape murder of that poor 29 year old woman which was comitted by the property manager of the prestwick Mark Lawlor, we were able to break our year lease and get out of that place. Did they tell you upon moving in that the Prestwick is transition housing for drug addicts and people recently released from prison? Mark Lawlor was one such person. He had been released from prion in 2007 after kidnapping and beating his girlfriend. He had served 6 years and was given a job as a leasing agent at the Prestwick. He entered the young woman's apartment using the master keys. Police found copies of 13 other keys in his apartment. That may be why the security gaurd at the front desk is not issued these keys. Just thought I would respond with this info. Here is a link to one of the many news stories about the incident. http://www.wusa9.com/printfullstory.aspx?storyid=77016 I wish you well and hope you are able to get out of that horrible place. God Bless!
