Sticking together

I tried everything under the sun to solve matters peacefully with the leasing office, but clearly they don't seem to care, and quite frankly, even the local authorities are so used to complaints from tenants in Skyline Towers, the VA laws work the benefits of the landlords, so therefore we're all stuck in this filthy and infested building, i have a child and the last thing i want is to catch a rat in her crib, as a matter of fact, we had a rat in the bedroom and for the last few days, the kid wasn't feeling well, i took her to the doctor and we're still waiting for the blood test's results to see if she's got any kind of infection, just the urine or the rats can cause some health issues, mainly for kids if they put their tiny hands in their mouths. My wife took the kid and she's staying with a relative, i found a decent place to move into with a very reasonable price and not far at all from where we are, i want to move out but they're being so stubborn.
I have the time and energy to fight for my right to move out, i spoke to a lawyer and it's all up to the judge if matters get nasty, but together, we can prove to whoever they want us to stand before, that Skyline Towers is anything but a safe, hygenic, friendly place to live in.
If ever anyone of you needs someone to testify, i'm with you, i can provide anyone with a signed petition, letter or i can even go to court to testify, and i don't think the court will ignore all the stuff that tenants can provide, as a matter of fact, just the fact that most of us complaint to the health department and the Fairfax county's consumer department and reporting the thugs terrorising the corridors and the park and the pool area and the parking, all these are enough evidence to make any judge in the world to be in the tenants' side.
Let's stick together, they can't fight us all, and that particular arrogant male manager they got in the leasing office will be sorry, i pay you damnass and so every single tenant in the building, cause of us all, you manage to pay your bills and with you all the incompetent staff you have there, have some dignity and resign, all the management personel should be ashamed of the service they provide and the way they talk to tenants.

Skyline Towers appears (on the outside) to be liveable. However, once you move in you find out that it is not and all the promises management made to you to get you to sign the lease is false. Many of us moved out or broke our leases to get out. The place is not safe and now has a serious gang problem. High crime occurs - theft, damage, cars broken into, IDs stolen out of apartments. Nothing works as the daily signs tell you - no running water, no hot water, no air, no heat, no electricity, no working elevators, etc. etc. Management does nothing. All you can do is get an attorney - as we did - and get out.

Check the user response to a post a couple days ago - it gives the contact information for the Fx Cty Health Dept and what supposedly the Health Dept says Skyline is doing about the rats and mice.

I'm SERIOUSLY looking for other places to live and wanted to know, for those who have broken your lease, what were the concenquences. I haven't paid my rent for this month and of course got the $200 fee for being late. I seriously just want to get the heck out of there and use that money to get a new apartment. Has anyone done that? I know they can take legal action and if they do I could be obligated to pay that money back and legal fees. Has this happened to anyone?

I can't imagine why anyone in their right mind would even consider moving into Skyline Towers, which by the way should be renamed Bottom-Pits Towers. It is the worst of the worst of any apartment building that anyone has ever been to. Don't let the walk they do on your tour of the building fool you. The leasing office (incompetent personnel & manager) walks you through the lobby to your apartment (DEMAND TO SEE THE BASEMENT OF SOUTH TOWER DURING THE VISIT) and in the process greet everyone they see in the elevator. But, wait till you finish signing the lease, they completely ignore ALL your concerns and couldn't care less. They won't even greet you when you are standing there in their office talking to them. Anyway, here are just some of the issues tenants confront in this building: SKYLINE TOWERS
1. RATS, RATS, RATS and more RATS and then the mice ALL OVER THE BUILDING.
2. BUILDING SECURITY are a bunch of lazy good for nothing men who couldn't be bothered.
3. BREAK-INS in the parking garage with over 25 cars being hit one night.
4. Foul smelling hallways and basement walkways to the parking garage - reason being rat urine in the ceilings
5. Live and dead flies all over the basement walkway - who by the way have probably been sipping on rat urine and now fly to sit on your shoulder and head????
6. Rats running overhead while you work out in the gym
7. COMPLETELY INCOMPETENT / INCAPABLE/ UNINTELLIGENT/ UNCARING PERSONNEL & MANAGER IN THE LEASING/MANAGEMENT OFFICES - they probably can't even count the money they are collecting from the tenants each month, which is why their conscience allows all these conditions to exist while they continue collecting. Can't imagine that any caring or competent person would allow this in a building they supposedly "MANAGE" - if they can't manage the building then who needs a manager???

The first thing you need to do is to file with Fairfax consumer department, there are already over 12 complaints against Skyline Towers, so the more the complaints are the more chances we all have to get the hell out of the infested place. I am breaking the lease anyway, and willing ot go to court, i just hope that if ever i need someone to testify for the state the building and how filthy and unsafe it is, as i am willing to stand by any decent tenant who've been a victim of the management outrageous attitude towards the whole situation.

I would love to be informed on your breaking your lease. I'm really considering doing it around Sept/Oct timeframe. I'd like some advice, and I'd like to know what they think. Thanks!

Management says you have three options if you want to break your lease:
1. Move to the North Tower (yeah, right! Like the rats haven't found their way over there by now!)
2. Move to another Equity community (well, not an option since we all live here because of the perfect location and huge apartments.)
3. Pay two months rent penalty.
I personally have spoken with people that don't want to deal with a lawsuit and prefer to just leave and pay the frikin' penalty because they can't stand it here any longer after 15 years of living here. This is very sad.
The truth is that is they allow people to break their lease because of this horrible infestation the building will be empty in less than a month! That's why they don't allow it!
PLEASE, BREAK YOUR LEASE AND BE PREPARED WITH AMUNITIONS TO PROVE IN COURT. I DOUBT YOU WILL LOSE THIS BATTLE.

Why not start a tenant's association? This worked well for us in a previous apartment building with a difficult management situation.

OVER THE PAST 2 YEARS I COUGHT DOZENS AND DOZENS OF RATS IN MY APARTMENT. I WROTE LETTERS TO THE MANAGEMENT BUT NO EFFECT.
I WILL BREAK MY LEASE AND THREATEN A LAWSUITE IN THEY TRY TO MAKE MY PAY THE PENALTY.
CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND ME A LAWYER THEY ARE USING?? WE CAN START A CLASS ACTION AND DEMAND REFUND IN RENT!!
SKYLINE TOWERS SHOULD SHUT DOWN AND THEIR LISCENCE TAKEN AWAY! THE PLACE SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO OPERATE UNDER THESE TERRIBLE CONIDTIONS!
WRITE LETEERS TO THE MAIN OFFICE AND FAIRFAX DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH
I AM ALSO CALLING MY CONGRESSMAN, SINCE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH IS NOT DOIND ANYTHING TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM!!

I received an invitation under my door to join an association. I was traveling a lot due to work; does anyone know about this?

I also remember getting the notice under my door regarding starting a tenants board. I emailed the person that I would be interested but never heard back.

The person who was, in the past, trying to start a Tenants board or association, has probably moved out or suddenly found their lease was challenged as an undesirable from the management company. Or as had happened in the past...Tenants that have had many complaints and did a lot of yelling, did not step up to the plate and get active and participate for change. An association is a not a one-time thing. You need to actively participate and continue on. again if and when, this is over, all the Tenants need to stay active. Many Tenants met before on issues at Skyline, but, it all boiled down to 4 people being active out of perhaps 400 people. The 400 gave empty promises of help. None of them would contribute a dime toward a Lawyer or printing costs, these people would only complain. The Tenants wanted others to fight the battle for them. I will no longer freely contribute my time and money for other residents concerns. I have nothing to gain. GET ACTIVE or MOVE ON!!!
