Horrible horrible experience.

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2008

I've been a resident for 2 years. I live on the 26th floor in a 2/2 unit. For the first few months, I was an advocate of the building - I thought that the price and the size made up for other issues. Well, the honeymoon has been over for quite a while. And while my experience is probably going to be different from others, mine is all I can tell. Here are the issues:
1. Elevators - there are four passenger and 1 freight elevators per building. They're NEVER all working. And there have been many times when there was only ONE elevator serving 26 floors. If you complain - you're met with silence. It's like the building management operates in a vacuum... I can deal with maintenance issues. I can't deal with being expected to just deal with it and have no information on whats going on. The elevators are covered by a maintenance contract - I suggest that the management use that contract.
2. Air conditioning - this year was especially difficult. The AC is not available during the fall and winter (which I can deal with). However, when it goes on in the summer seems to be at the whim of a 5 year old with a bad attitude. in 2008, we were forced to wait over a month after county rules dictate that AC must be offered... their excuse - the mild temperature. What the management failed to realize is that during the day, the temperature went up and up and up. Our only relief was to open the windows and use fans. The result' your apartment is COVERED with pollen and dust. No matter how much you clean - your unit will not feel clean. For those with allergies, be prepared to be sick for over a month. When questioned, it was (again) silence from the management.
3. The STINK in the basement. There are rodents in the drop ceiling in the basement. You hear them all the time, running around - day and night. In an effort to exterminate - some of them were killed - then LEFT to ROT in the ceiling for weeks on end. The result - a HORRIBLE smell in the basement. The basement of the South Tower is literally one of the most disgusting places I've ever been. The smell is horrible - it is like death. And again - the management REFUSES to acknowledge the issue. They wait and wait and wait to let anyone know anything about the situation.
4. Renovations. These were a JOKE. The theme of the entire renovation process was "How many times can we inconvenience the residents" - the answer was "as much as possible." We had to move ALL the furniture in our unit on several occasions...sometimes with little or no notice. And if you should happen to be expecting guests - or be sick - or be out of tow, tough luck. It was all about how inconvenient they could make the daily life of the resident. The overall result wasn't even that great. The new HVAC convectors were bent up on installation. Great way to build good will with the residents. And when the laundry facilities were being rebuilt - the 26th floor was without laundry for almost two months.
5. The residents. living in Skyline Towers is like a cross between living in an old folks home or in the middle east. That, or you've got to put up with children who run through the halls, hog elevators, talk filth and trash, trash up common areas, etc. I guess when you have to live in a building with management that does not care, you adopt the same attitude. While there are some nice folks in this complex - the majority of the residents are vile, evil people.
6. Everything else. EVERYTHING. The manager, Trent - is a jerk. He is an idiot - just like everyone other person working in the management office. Front desk staff - IDIOTS. Security' Yeah, right. They're non-English speaking, minimum wage idiots. They don't care. Maintenance' Yeah - right. They maintain that building like a slumlord.
As for rent' It's going up. and up. and up. and up.
Needless to say, I am moving. And I am going to file formal complaints with the Dept. of Health. If I wanted to live in a slum, I'd move to Haiti.

I am guessing that you moved into this slum dump ghetto without reading the reviews about it. If you did read it, why on earth did you not believe the reviews when 3 out of 4 people do NOT recommend this place, and most of them in fact, would think that the rat haven should be condemned?

Everything you say is true. Unfortunately, you've only touched on one-tenth of the problems at Skyline Towers. The Fairfax Dept. of Health is already involved as well as the Police because of the gang problems at Skyline Towers. I am always sorry to hear of people suffering because they did not read the reviews from former tenants or believed the lies by the Skyline Management people. The best thing to do is move out as fast as you can and DO NOT PREPAY anything. They will try to keep your security deposit.

I am about to write a review of this apartment. We are moving out this weekend after living two years on the 24th floor. Every issue you discussed is completely true. I can't wait to get out of here.
