I lived in Poplar Forest my junior year at Longwood. I would recommend this place for a college student. While I was there there were a few townies living in the development but for the most part it was college students. I was there before the gym and pool were added so to go back and see that they are finally adding usual apartment accomodations was nice. Too bad it wasn't there when I lived there. The apartments all have internet hook up for college kids which was definitely helpful. The staff was very nice and always tried to get maintainence ASAP for you. This one time we had a leak in the ceiling and a repair guy was there the next day. Also they come in monthly to spray for bugs which is good seeing not all college kids are very neat.
