Decent but not as luxurious as you'd guess from the model

My wife and I lived in the middle of Richmond but decided to move out of town. The Hamptons immediately appealed. Superb location, great communal areas, nicely landscaped grounds and a wide selection of apartment sizes. The model was exceptionally nice too.

We opted for a two bedroom two bathroom 1150sq ft place moving in in about ten weeks time. Fine with us. As an employee of one of the 'preferred employers' we got the application fee waived without issue.

Our apartment itself is in a really great spot, just beside the communal mailboxes and within 30 seconds walk of the pool and gym/clubhouse area. We've been living here for just over a year now and find for the most part things are great. A few small issues:
-Our friends moved in and our referral seemed to take FOREVER to come through. They couldn't just deduct it from our rent but had to issue a cheque from corporate. Too many phone calls to count, a cheque for the wrong amount etc. We are almost six months down the track and it has been getting on our nerves! The leasing office are friendly enough but the corporate people are plain unhelpful.
-For 'luxury apartments' they aren't well put together and suffer from mild annoyances. The spray hose in the kitchen sink would stay stuck and not go back to coming through the faucet. One of the windows seemed to leak and got mildew on the window ledge. The wood veneer strip on top of one of the cabinets came loose flapping around. One of the toilets seem to grow a line of mildew/mold and requires cleaning several times per week. Maintenance are usually quite to respond whether you call or email.
-The floors and walls are particular weak spots, they are almost like cardboard! Our neighbours have a dog that sleeps in the bedroom (which backs onto our bedroom!) and if it barks at ngiht you can hear it pretty clearly. We are on the second floor and find that if our neighbours above us have the bass turned up a little on their home theatre system then we get disturbed. We did have problems with the previous tenant above us and her dog that would wake my light sleeping wife.
-Neither the pool nor the 'hot tub' are heated. Our previous apartment complex had an unheated pool also but to have an unheated hot tub seems daft. On the plus side the pool gets heated off the sunlight so is comfortable to swim in.
-The pool is open for only the peak of summer. It closed in mid September yet we have been experiencing 90 degree heat without use of the pool last weekend!

Overall the experience has been very pleasant. We do pay a premium for it but overall enjoy our time here. We often invite friends over to play pool or shuffleboard in the clubhouse, or take advantage of the 30 seat movie theatre. The events laid on can be quite enjoyable too, have had wine and beer tasting and numerous other events and excursions are laid on for residents.

What did surprise about the place was the real mix of demographic who live here. As young twenty somethings we expected it to be mostly 'post college, past constant partying' crowd. There are numerous young families, seniors and other young couples here.
