Worst place to live

I lived at signature place condos for over a year. It was not what I would consider a good place to live. It looks nice when you first move in, the staff seems so pleasant, but it all changes once your rose colored glass come off. The only good part of the complex is the pool, and thats when its working and not closed. The buildings are poorly built, with cheap materials, and nothing is kept up, unless it is pictured in the brochure they have in the rental office. The kitchen cabinets were falling apart and poorly built. My toilet had a leaky seal that I complained about for months before it was fixed. They floor was comeing up from the water, and they did come and glue it back down. but never did anything about the water damage, which lead to mold growth that they refused to repair. I had to keep the door to that bathroom closed at all times do to the smell of the mold and mildew. The office staff was rude and catty, were never helpful, and seemed like they did not have time to discuss your concerns. The security that they claim to have is an off duty deputy that lives there rent free, I think its the only reason he stays there. I never saw him make a patrol, or responde to anything going on in the complex. The rent was very high for the area, and was always being adjusted up, and not to match inflation of the market. It seemed the higher the rent got, the worse the complex got. Lighting was always out, and never repaired. The maintance guys seemed to try and adress your concerns, but did not have the manpower or funding to fix things. I did not feel safe liveing there. There were constant break-ins, with cars being stolen left and right. At one point garages were being broken into, and they never did anything to address the security concerns. I considered breaking my lease and paying the fee at one point just to get out of there. I did not feel safe for most of my time liveing there. At one point I was afraid to park my car there, in fear it would be stolen. I brought my concerns to the front office, and they treated me like I was out of my mind. they down played all the breakins and car thefts, stateing it was just rumors by dissatisfied tenants. I asked a few off the other girls liveing there, and they felt the same as me. I ended up staying till the end of my lease, I could not afford to break it. I kept my apartment spotless, but still only got $60 back from my security deposit. The stated that I had stained the carpet and left holes in the walls. Yes, the off white carpet showed normal wear and tear where people walked, and off course there are going to be small holes in the walls from where I had hung pictures. When I checked this out through the better business of Hampton Roads, they said that was to be expected, and I should have gotten my full deposit back. I considered fighting this, but then I would have had to deal with the complex manager, and that was just not worth it to me. I never want to have to go through that experience ever again. g-hKOS7s4Nq5n3hEIpHd

I agree with Teacher10, 100%. The Anonymous posting on 1/30/09 seems to be the same person who writes many negative responses, which started after the only nasty staff member I have every had a problem with was terminated. Intresting. I have never had the maintenance workers come in without a work request by me (only twice), or prior notice given the week before, for a filter change,or smoke detector check. Mold is caused by moisture, once the moisture is eliminated a mixture of bleach will kill it. As per the Uniform Statewide Building Code, the tenant is resposible for keeping the interior of the area they lease CLEAN, not the maintenance staff. Also check the crime stats from the police dept. It just doesn't support these claims several "Anonymous " postings have written about since the person from the office staff was fired. I have been here since 2006 and NEVER had any problems, current staff or crime.

Teacher, what I find funny is that out of all the complaints on this website, you seem to be the only one aside from the management that doesn't have a problem with this place. I understand that all the complaints actually are similar. But did you ever consider that everyone is voicing the same complaints because everyone had the same complaints? Just because you seem to have had a satisfactory and adequate experience with Signature Place doesn't mean everyone else did. I lived there and I didn't have a pleasant experience when I lived there. The person who posted the above review made a few valid points regarding the rent, the security patrol, and water damage. I experienced the same thing. My car was never stolen, but the tags on my car and the expiration stickers were stolen. The panel in the ceiling of my bathroom was never repaired properly so I had mold that grew down my wall that they never fixed. The increase on rent each year isn't market rate rent. It is to offset the amount that the military actually pay. The more militart in the complex, the more rent you have to pay. I went from paying $625 a month to paying $975. My apartment never grew any bigger. I also didn't approve of the apartment manager allowing people in the apartment at all times of the morning. There was some mornings when I was still asleep and the maintenance men were in there to fix the panel, to paint the door, to check the filters, etc... As a single woman that scared me. So I reiterate, just because your experience is/was a pleasant one, doesn't mean everyone else has to share your view and opinion.

I also agree with Anonymous, teacher10 had earlier stated that she is friends with the management so she is obviously biased. I have spent time at the pool in the summer and have had the policed called due to fighting tenants, etc... The jacuzzi is typically broken there was next to nothing for the workout room. It's a mess, the staff is in denial and you really need to move somewhere else. They did used to have a great girl that worked there, Shannon and she was actually nice and would address your concerns but if you need anything and you aren't teacher10 or best friends with the staff they really don't care.

Please show me the quote where I said I was friends with the office staff. I said that they are friendly. That's two different things.
