Not great, but best in Hampton

Let me say up front that I hated Hampton. Apartment community choices were mediocre at best, downright dangerous at worst.

Out of this weak gene pool, the Township came out on top. The location was the best in Hampton - the only area that showed a glimmer of vitality and middle-class prosperity. Even so, property crime was a concern (cars in the lot were broken into routinely, including mine).

I had a mouse infestation in my apartment. Management response was less than impressive: they had the Orkin guy put down a few glue traps. After I insisted that they send a maintenance guy to find and seal the miceholes in the wall, they eventually sent a guy, who made a 2-minute scan of the apartment, and said there was nothing he could do. Left with no choice, I became a pretty good mouse killer, and finally found/sealed their entryway myself.

Appliances were built in 1987, and I hate to think how much electricity my 18-year-old fridge wasted.

Walls and floors provided terrible sound insulation. I heard when any of the neighbors urinated. I knew when the neighbors were having ... intimate moments. I heard the floor squeak loudly when the upstairs neighbor stepped out of bed (at 4:30 am, every weekday). I knew exactly what the neighbors were listening to on the stereo (fun apartment-living game: pull the same song down on iTunes and make sure it is still playing when the neighbor's stereo stops). The noise drove me crazy, but then again, none of the apartments in the area are built any better.

Other reviewers have talked about the hot water outages. It happened a couple times a year, without warning: no hot water in the morning. Joy.

Despite all this, the Township provided habitable lodging in a relatively safe, pleasant, and convenient area. For Hampton, that's a rare find.
