Chestnut Ridge Apartments is a Horrible place to live. I will start off with the couple of good things that the complex has. The first good thing is the location. Chestnut Ridge Dr is in a great spot and you re not more than 5 minutes away from just about anything in the East end of town or Downtown. The apartments are spacious and contain two full bathrooms which is always nice, especially with kids. Also, the apartments aren t but about seven (7) years old so they don t have much age on them at all.

The main bad thing about these apartments is the management. We only lived there for seven (7) months and the complex had been through two managers, neither of which have a clue of what is going on or how to manage an apartment complex. Complaints to the management do no good. I was straight up told that the only thing they can about noise complaints is keep sending them letters. I realize that in an apartment complex you re going to have noise, but the pictures on my walls vibrating and actually being able to hear words to songs is crossing the line. But after call after call to the Police and complaint after complaint to the management nothing is ever done about it.

Another thing we complained on many times are speeders. There are two speed bumps in the first row of apartments, right near the stop sign. People fly in and out of the complex and I told the management lots of time that something needed to be done before someone got hurt badly. It's been seven (7) months and still no solution. This tells you where they stand on how high they rate the safety of their tenants.

Nobody that lives here has any value for anyone else s property. Our car has been keyed a total of three (3) times since we have been here. Requests for maintenance take forever to get answered. There is one maintenance man here that is extremely nice that takes care of things in a timely manner and does them right, the other one is useless. Don t even bother with trying to call the rental office. We have tried for days on end before to get hold of the office via telephone and they keep routing their calls to their answering service who takes messages and never relays them to the office. The answering service will straight up tell you, you ll have better luck going down the office. This isn t always an option and they should be reachable by phone at least some times.

This place is alcohol, drug, and party central. We ve came outside numerous times to find beer bottles/cans thrown all over the place, puke on the steps, and trash all over the place. And guess what, complaint after complaint to the office didn t get us anywhere. On the way out of the door to go swimming at the pool (which stayed green and closed most of the time) my toddler son found a little baggie containing suspicious substance. Anyone with half a brain knows it was marijuana. I took this straight to the office and instead of calling the police, the office manager calls one of her contacts from the Rockingham County drug task force and he shows up and doesn t really care because it s not the big bust he was picturing.

Bottom line, if your family is like mine and is a good hard working family that is drug and alcohol free just trying to make ends meet during money troubles, this place isn t for you. If you want to do drugs, party, and drink every day and night with everyone else in your building and neglect your kids, this is the spot for you. If you want to live in a place where management turns a blind eye to everything just because the money is rolling in, this is the place for you. If you were like my family and really didn t have a choice but to move here because you have trouble getting approved anywhere else, I m sorry. You will want to put yourself in a situation that will get you out of there as soon as possible.

Not happy with the way things were being handled here, I contacted the regional manager of the complex to never have received a response back from them. That tells me that the mentality of not caring goes further up the food chain than I thought. I will never rent from this or any other property owned/managed by S.L. Nusbaum ever again.

Please take heed to this review and be careful before even considering moving into this place.

Hey, look on the bright side, you didn't have to deal with gunfire while you were there like I did.
