On the fence

When we first moved in, I was really diappointed. The kitchen floors were absolutly disgusting....both dirty and had burn marks all over them. We were missing doors (and still are) to the linen closets and the coat closet in the kitchen. There was one very nice thing though....the carpets were brand new. This made the place look a lot better.

Whenever something broke, the maintence crew was usually here within 24 hours, which is not bad at all. The only problem is that they would come and fix it, leave, and we would find out that it wasnt really fixed so we would have to put in another work order.

As for the appliances...they are all from the early 80's....over 20 years old! One can only imagine how long it takes to wash a load of clothes in something like that. It normally takes about 2 and a half hours to dry one load. That makes the electricity bill skyrocket when the dryer is running all day.

The noise wasn't too bad at all....but that depends on who your neighbors are. The weekends were the noisiest. During the weekdays, I never had any complaints with noise. It is very quiet during the day.

The parking is kind of bad at night. During the day you can easily find a spot...but at night its a nightmare. I've had to park in other parking lots and walk to my building because of all the visitors that park in our spaces (which is not enforced). The commons assures us that there will be more spaces added soon...but not soon enough. I won't be here to wait for that to happen.

We did have one problem with a breakin...one of my roommates was here (sleeping) and someone came in, took something of ours, and destroyed it....which really pissed me off. After that I got an individual lock for my door (which is highly recommended, whether you know your roommates or not!).

I know my comments have been pretty negative thus far, but I can't say that I hated living here. This is the first apartment that I've had on my own, and it really feels like home. Yea, it was kind of bare and depressing in the beginning but all it needed was a little sprucing up....we needed to make it our own...and we did. For $328 bucks a month, I loved it here. Now, they're going up 50 dollars per person per month next year. I don't have the funds to pay 378. They make you think its a great deal because electricity is "included" NO....it is included up to 30 dollars a person. After that, you have to pay the extra. So, it would really end up being about 390 a month....that's just way too much for me.

I hope I helped anyone out that is trying to make a decision....I tried to stay objective! And just so everyone knows....if the rent wasn't going up so much, I would DEFINITELY be staying here next year.

And who knows....maybe with all the extra money they'll be making next year, they'll buy some new appliances....lord knows we need them.
