We have a daughter who attends JMU and lived at the Commons for a year. Her lease expired in August of 2005. Upon vacating her apartment, there wasn't a representative available to do an inspection. She made several attempts for a final walk through and received responses that no one was available. The Commons failed to return her security deposit within the 45 day period, as required by law. They failed to serve notice as to why a refund was not issued. She has requested assistance in collecting what is rightly due. Numerous messages have been left for the property manager and letters have been sent. It has been seven months and they have yet to respond. We have been informed by several other students with the same situation, making it grounds for a class action lawsuit. We are in the process of seeking legal recourse to remedy the situation, a process that will hopefully prove quite costly for them. Complaints will be filed with the Landlord and Tenant Relations in Rockingham County, the Office of Consumer Affairs in Richmond, VA, all the local news stations we can notify to follow through with what may be a tremendous story for investigative reporting. Stay tuned....

Right on! I think more people need to take legal action against College Park Communities' shady business.

Good for you. I'm a current resident of Stone Gate (in Harrisonburg, also owned by CPC) and I'm also considering pressing charges against them for other things.

Absolutely! I'm contemplating doing the same thing. These are people conducting their business in such bad faith they should not be let getting away with it. They probably think that since they are dealing mostly with students, they can get away with everything...
