Lies, gun shots and wasted time...

When attempting to move to this area from Maryland, my now former roommate had told me she thought this apartment complex looked nice.

So, after scheduling a visitation, I made a four hour trip down there with her to view the apartments, as was promised by the leasing office.

When we arrived, we were first told they'd never heard of either of us, and after an hour of discussion almost turned arguments, one of the lease agents decided perhaps she should call someone else that works there to confirm that yes, we did in fact have an appointment to inspect an apartment that day.

After that was settled, we were then immediately told that yes, we had an appointment to view an apartment, but no, they didn't have any to actually show, and the one we WERE scheduled to tour "was not cleaned", as one woman put it.

After another round of discussion, argument, and making us wait for an hour and a half on top of this, they told us two come back in another hour.

When we returned, after having already spent a total of almost four hours on or near the facilities, we were told that we'd have to schedule another appointment, and that they could not do that at on-site.

We then had them call their management company, a process which took another half-hour of persuassion to get done, only to have the leasing agent that no, the apartment we had been scheduled to view was not clean, and in fact WAS STILL BEING RENTED BY ANOTHER TENTANT.

We then apologized to the management company agent, and received a very rude, extremely discourteous speech from the leasing agent about how "I don't see what the difference is.", with a tone suggesting she felt WE were the ones causing problems, despite the fact she had been flat out lying to us, and we explained to her SEVERAL times that there was a world of difference between an apartment being unclean after recently being vacated, and an apartment still being inhabitted by a tenant.

Add to that there was a drive-by shooting across the street from this apartment complex, and you also have safety concerns, as well.

In short, the staff is rude, lying and generally a pain to deal with.

obvious to me is the fact that you are not being truthful! The people here go out of their way to provide the best customer service! And being from out of town I think it amazing you would comment on the safety of the area, having never been here! Been here 3 years with 3 young children, never felt safer!

I am also a two year resident I can totally believe this review. When we first came to The Greens, it was nice and well managed. The management changed and it has gone downhill quickly.

Despite the fact that we were told that the complex was not "student housing" and that they did not allow roomating - this has changed. Also, what was once a strict pet policy has been significantly loosened to allow mulitple LARGE animals. Not good in a small area. The pool, which was at one time, well maintained, was allowed to get filthy last summer and it was not properly drained & covered in a timely manner in the fall. Also - the neighboring complex, Chestnut Ridge apartments, is seedy, low-rent and full of illegals who frequently avail themselves of the services on the Greens complex such as the tennis court, playground, pool and other services intended for Greens Residents only and the management has taken no steps to curb this.

The management has become slack - it used to be nice, but it is sliding and we are looking to leave as soon as we can.

This is very unfortunate because in Harrisonburg 90% of the renters are stundents. THe Greens was the ONLY non-townhouse apartment complex with nice amenities that we found which catered to families rather than students.

About the only thing that is still nice is the landscaping - give it time...

This is a 100% true story- I was there while it happened, as were some of my friends. I came down as friend of the OP and sister to his roommate, and was supposed to leave from Hburg with my friends afterwards to meet up with my father at Bryce Resort in Bayse, VA. I had to call my father back numerous times, delaying and delaying our arrival time- by the time we got onto the dangerous mountain roads around Bayse, it was almost dark. I would assume the staff was prejudiced against the young, since they looked at all of us as if we were hooligans. I can see not wanting hard-partying students to come into your family neighborhood, but when it's a manager of a local hotel and a former military man, you'd think they'd not be so rude. My final verdict- agist. Not everyone under 30 is into loud parties.
