I (unfortunately) lived in Sunchase for two years. Moving in was an ordeal- nothing was ready! Despite the fact that we had all four signed new leases in October, Sunchase was dumbfounded that 4 new residents were moving in. They claimed they thought someone was returning to the apartment, so nothing needed to be replaced, cleaned, or painted. There was even nacho cheese still stuck to the microwave. After excessive complaints, they finally returned our apartment to NEW move-in ready. After this little incident the rest of the first year was fine. I had no further complaints and we happily renewed or lease for the following year. Then, as we arrived back to start our senior year, lo and behold, a new building was being constructed right next to us. Right by our windows, right by our balcony. We were never notified of this project even being in the works, let alone beginning. As we complained to management, we were treated like second-class residents. They never apologized or offered any sort of compensation. Our final year was spent with half a parking lot, no view, no privacy (if we opened the living room blinds the workers could see straight in our place), and no sleeping in (they started at 8am everyday). We were consistently ignored and belittled. If we had been notified of this construction project, we never would have renewed our lease. But, then Sunchase wouldn't get our money- and that is the bottom line for them
Speaking of money- upon move-out, I was charged $200 for a new mattress. Now, when I moved in, I received a new mattress. I immediately placed two egg crates and a mattress topper over it. Those were never removed. I never spilled anything, drew, bled, threw up, or tarnished that mattress in anyway. But somehow, my mattress was ruined. I made a trip back to the 'burg and demanded to see it. There was a light dark shadow on the side of the mattress. This apparently made the mattress ruined and unsuitable for human use. I could take the mattress with me in my 2 door coupe and they would take off a whopping $20 from the mattress fee. I argued all I could, but they wouldn't budge. The bastards took even more of my money.

I don't regret anything in my 4 years as a JMU student, but I regret EVER being a Sunchase resident. DO NOT LIVE HERE!
