Think twice before you Rent

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2005
I stayed at Oakwood in Corporate Housing when I first moved to Virginia in 2003. It was beautiful, the people were accomodating, etc. Fast foward, one year when I decide to come back as an actual resident. For some reason the service just wasn't there anymore. On the day we were to move in, we were told we couldn't. We were then told we could move in the following day, maybe, we should call after 1 PM to find out. This was very difficult since I had already paid movers to move my things from one place to the other. Oakwood attempted to be accomodating by offering me storage in another apartment, and to stay at a hotel in the meantime. However, this is unacceptable when you have been planning this move for some time and no one even bothered to contact you before coming to sign the lease and pick up the keys. We still never knew why we could not move in - all we know is that something was wrong with the carpet...
Upon moving in we found about 10 or 12 things wrong. Sinks leaking, blinds being held together with paper clips, non-functioning heating/ac, and worst of all roaches.
It was like Joe's apartment for the first two months. Management was apologetic throughout but they often did very little to actually solve the problem. Ultimately that problem was fixed but all others were ignored, until my husband started visiting the office weekly. Now after 9 months we finally have most things repaired. However, we will not be renewing our lease and we will not encourage anyone to live there.
