Moved in 2 years ago and I think your experience will largely be based on which end of the complex you live in.
I live on the complete opposite end of the complex from the basketball courts. The parking situation is worse over here but I think I've heard it's quieter. The view is also better (28 & airport) there is a company putting up new apartments 2ft from the archstone border at the other end of the complex and it looks messy.
Also, I live in a top floor apartment so the only noise I hear is occasionally from the washer/dryer in the apt next to mine. There are no elevators but the extra exercise is good :) Apt is bright, roomy and very clean when I moved in.
I have two dogs and there are lots of places to choose to walk them which is nice (but please clean up after your dog, there are many who don't). Lighting is excellant and well maintained. I have walked them as late as 11pm and never felt unsafe or seen anything that would make me uneasy. There is only one unpleasant person I have run into who has 2 jack russells she refuses to put on leash, but other than that, I have yet to run into an unfriendly person here.
Any maintenance request I have put in has been taken care of within 24hrs. There is one maintenance guy I love but I do not know his name, he came to my apartment on a SUNDAY at 9am to check out an emergency leak within 15 minutes of my calling. I almost passed out, never lived anywhere where that has happened before. I have found the staff to be very friendly and responsive if you are respectful and friendly towards them.
Here's the one bad thing - the parking sucks...bad. In the two years I have lived here I have had friends over maybe 2x b/c every inch of parking space is taken up and there is no street parking so people have to carpool to your place or park illegally (and they will get towed...) so if that is on your prioity list, be aware... Also, the gates are annoying. I could do without the gates.
I really love it here, if I could buy my apartment I would. I will be leaving this year sadly b/c they are raising my rent to $1295 50/month for dogs and that's too much for me to pay, if it weren't for that I'd be here forever....

Follow-up: They really get you on the move out. The bill that followed 4 weeks after I moved out for $444 carpet replacement (this was after applying my $200 credit) was a complete shocker. I am disappointed in the office staff and feel totally taken advantage of. Not to mention their accounting is suspect, I received two eviction notices for not paying the last months rent in full (I moved out on the 25th so it was prorated) and I called up the office each time totally panicking only to be told to "ignore it" b/c no one in the office knew how to update the system. It was ridiculous.
