Nice place to call home, but experiencing growing pains

I moved into Archstone Woodland Park a year ago when it was brand new. My unit was one of the first ones completed, so some of us had to endure some ongoing construction and dust for a few months while the other units were finished. But overall I have been very pleased and would not hesitate to recommend this apartment to anyone.

Pros:

- Excellent location: Close to the Toll Road and Fairfax County Parkway, as well as to various grocery stores, deli's, restaurants, and other services across the street and around the corner.

- Beautiful buildings, with unique stone facing (as opposed to the usual brick or siding). The interiors are nice, with high ceilings and new appliances, fresh paint and carpet.

- The superb landscaping and groomed courtyard areas make a pleasant living environment.

- Nice pool, volleyball court, and workout facilities. No free-weights (liability'), but enough equipment to keep you sweating for an hour (watching one of the 5 TV's).

- Friendly and responsive staff. But they could do a better job sorting their tenant's parcel deliveries.

Cons:

- Water pressure and highest temperature setting (for shower) leaves much to be desired.

- All trash must be carried across the property to a hidden dumpster. This is inconvenient, and a side-effect of this is that tenants are leaving their bags of trash next to the pet waste containers around the property.

- The windows don't have a top ledge to grasp when opening (you must stoop over to lift them from the bottom lip). Minor detail, but I'm picky.

- The stupid security gates at the entrances. They rarely work properly (sometimes hitting your car), and they use an obsolete card-reading system (which requires you to roll down your window in the rain, unlike the more advanced bar code/sticker systems). But I do appreciate the fact that the gates keep non-tenants from cutting through the property on the way to the grocery store across the street (limiting litter, vandalism, etc)
