Worldgate - Pros & Cons
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 8/23/2004
Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004
Here are the pros & cons:
- Convienient for getting around (very close to Dulles Toll road & close Fairfax County Parkway). Also Worldgate Mall is right across the street.
- We had a great view facing the grounds behind the complex.
- Parking was great, never had to park too far from one's apartment.
- Lots of closet space.
- The numbering on the apartment buildings is confusing (you may have to explain it to first time guests a few times or just meet them outside.)
- Dog Park, best thing about this complex isn't in the complex. If you have a dog that needs lots of excercise, consider the fact that the Herndon Dog park is within walking distance of the complex.
- Dog waste, like other apartments, there are pet waste stations along the grounds, but the bags are not always available in the stations. This lead to a problem of dogwaste being all over the grounds. Managment issued a letter stating they were going to fine residents caught not cleaning up after their dogs. Purchasing more bags for the waste stations would have sufficed. The managment finally hired someone to clean up the grounds in time for spring/summer rental promotions.
- Over time the grounds became cluttered with more and more trash, there were stuff thrown in the middle of the (does anyone remember the bed, the xmas trees, or the trash dumped in the middle of the "pond" area.
- The trash regularly piled up outside of the dumpsters. Management issued a statment that they were going to fine residents that didn't put their trash in the dumpsters, ie going through the trash to find identifying information to fine residents.
- The gym area is small and very busy during peak times, ie, after work.
- Maintenance is slow to help, mainly because they have a lot to fix. There was a remodel done and windows were not installed properly which lead to many units having major window leaks during major storms (many during 2003). Other issues were not fixed in a timely manner.
- With the hot water heaters being located outside, during the cold months we had less hot water per cylce.
- Water is included as an $10/month additional fee.
- The noise was awful, barring the fact that I had elephants living above me, the walls and windows are thin enough to hear conversations in the parking lot/hallways.
- The management seemed nice enough, but seemed one demensional in solving problems, blanket fines & posting complaint letters.
- The Worldgate area increasingly has had more reported crime in the recent year. There was a shooting across the street at world gate mall, a least one altercation/arrest in the complex, and a someone chased down behind the complex).
- Rent, was reasonable considering all the problems, but when our renewal came up they raised our rent by 10% and we decided to leave.
My wife and I wouldn't recommend this place knowing how many better places there are in the area.
