I happen to live above people who cook nothing but curry and all of my closets and cabinets wreak of curry. Everytime I open a cabinet door or closet door, the smell comes out. I have never lived in an apartment where I could smell my neighbors through the cabinets. I don't know that "Luxary apartments" is what I would consider Ashford Meadows, but I'm sure it could be worse. The price you pay for the apartments is mostly the location because with the appliances barely making it past inspection, the A/C hardly working it's way to the upper floors, and the curry smell I still can't get used to, it's asking alot to pay $1600 to $1700 for a place thats this quality. We won't be staying past our lease end.

This was the original review I wrote on 9-29-2008, but when I went to add the other one about my neighbors above, it erased my original problem, but so be it.
HERE IS WHAT THEY DID TO ME, and why I am so furious with them:
I gave my rent check to ________ on Thursday September 25th, mid-day, in front of two others in the office, who overheard our entire conversation. I dated my check September 26th, and asked Ashley if they were going to put it in their bank that day or not. She said Yes, we will put it in this afternoon.. I said that would be fine because it would not hit my bank until September 26th, the next day, when my husband s paycheck would be in. I made it very clear that there was not enough in the bank, so please, do not go to my bank to get any money TODAY.
I was planning to be out of town and with the banking situation like it was with Wachovia, I wanted the check to go through before today, September 29th, Monday. Wachovia was sold over the weekend to Citibank, and it was not clear if it would fail today or not. My bank charged me $22 for the insufficient funds check.
This morning [Monday] at 5:30 a.m. I went online to see if my rent check went through OK, and it said it was returned on Friday September 26th with NSF. I have not had an insufficient funds check ever! I called the bank at 8:30 and was told that this was presented to Wachovia on THURSDAY, September 25th.
After no one answered the phone the first half hour, I finally came into the office this morning at 9:30, before going to the bank to see what the situation was. The gal here knew nothing. She was the only one in the apartment office, which is the usually inconvenient case. All too often there is only one person there.
I discovered that indeed the check was presented to the bank on Thursday. I came back and asked the same gal, who was in the apartment office this morning, if they have some sort of machine through which they swipe the checks that takes it directly out of my bank. She does not know how it works, but she said yes, they have a machine, and that the office does not put the literal check in their bank account.
I would like to know how it is that I can give the office gal a check, ask her to hold it and not put it in the bank till later on in the day, and yet, before 3 pm, they go ahead and try to pull it out of my account, causing me $35 to stop payment and $22 for NSF. The check was dated 9/26/2008.
The absent manager always gets blamed, and of course, she is never there, so how convenient! This woman gets paid for never being there.
I was told she won't be back until next week sometime. What a "cooshy" job. No one in the office can make a single decision on anything until the manager is consulted, so the real client is simply told to keep trying or to come back. This is not management of apartments!
While I was vocally upset about the check this afternoon, on my way back from having been at the bank, and other errands, I wrote a new check. I stopped payment on the other one because my bank was not sure if it could be presented a second time, that each bank had its own policies.
Yes, I was upset that the girl there knew nothing about how the checks work, and out bursts a woman from behind a door, named __________, who started yelling at me. She said it would do no good for me to write a second check since the first one bounced. I was told in no uncertain terms that I would have to wait a few days, and go get a money order or a cashier's check, and bring that back in, because they could not accept another check.
She knew nothing about the situation, but jumped in anyway to tell me off, and to tell me what I was going to "have to do." I said I am going to leave a second check, since this is not my fault, that the office staff was fully informed, but they went ahead somehow and tried to get the money out of my bank as soon as I walked out the door last Thursday. Ms. ___________said she would not accept my replacement check! I replied that I am NOT GOING TO GO GET A CASHIER'S CHECK or a money order because of their failures.
This is a formal complaint about Ms.________ who escalated the problem by not even asking what the situation was first, but by yelling at me, and I yelled back, and her voice went up and so did mine. She was totally unprofessional and threatening, and I would like to see her out of here. She should be working at a gym, not an apartment management facility. I got the impression from her she has never had a single word of training in diplomacy, patience or customer satisfaction. She acted like it was MY FAULT the check bounced because after al, I gave it to them. THE DATE WAS FOR FRIDAY THE 26th if you want to get technical about it.
I left the office saying they could take it or leave it; I am not writing another check or going to the Post Office to get a money order or jump through the hoops they want me to just because they screwed up and acted in a false manner to begin with, and most particularly because their word is worthless. __________said it would not be put through. Now, how is it she gives it to the mysterious manager who is never there, and the "MANAGER" puts it through their machine so fast that it bounces within the hour after I left the office?
I asked the office gal today if their machine can literally pull money out of 50 different banks [their bank, they told me is Bank of America]...I would have appreciated it if someone would have told me the system, that they go behind a door and swipe the check and pull the money out of your bank as fast as you can say lickety split. Instead, the gals there stood there and acted like they do regular banking, where the chekcs are actually deposited; instead, they gave me the false impression that the check would not hit my bank till the following day, WHEN THEY KNEW THIS WAS NOT SO.
They knew, because they sure knew today when I went in, enought ot ecxplain this much to me. I TOLD THEM THE MONEY WAS NOT IN THERE THAT DAY, AND NOT TO DEPOSIT IT TILL LATER, AS MY HUSBAND'S CHECK WOULD NOT BE IN TILL THE FOOWING DAY.
Normally I would have plenty of money in to cover it, but as it is, banks ar efailing as we speak, and I am leaving in only enough to cover my checks.
The office manager made a huge stink about what was on my balcony last year, which was very beautiful, actually, an enclosure of sorts. I was initially told by _________when we moved in, and all the maintenance guys who saw it, that it was very nice, and even fit the design of the exterior of the apartments, but somehow the office manager decided I must bring it inside.
Now I see campaign banners hanging from people's balconies and absolutely nothing is done about it, though I have asked. They are especially offensive to me, as you can imagine, our Presidential campaign is hotly contested, and I can guarantee you if I hung one out I would get a call immediately. This is not what people should be allowed to do here.
The gals in the office claim they do not know what the policy is!!!!! I was told I have to wait until after next week when the office manager gets back to see what should or should not be done about campaign banners hanging off of fourth floor balconies .waiting for this MANAGER" is like waiting for Godot.
I think this office manager should be fired, and even if she were, no one would miss her since she is never there anyway. She is a mean-attitude, self-centered control freak of a woman who seems to keep the rest of the office staff both uninformed and incapable of handling even the smallest details unless she is overseeing them. What this means is that whenever we need to know something, we have to wait until she is around to find out this tells me it is not well run. Office staff should be there for residents not just to run around show apartments to people.
I CANNOT WAIT TO MOVE. I was actually thinking to sign up again in March but no way. I cannot wait to be out of here. We just recommended this place to a friend and we get to wait for weeks to get the $200 check for a referral. We have many people moving here from my husband s company and I told him today not to recommend anymore because this place is not well managed.

SOMETIMES THE EMPLOYEE STATED IN THE REVIEW IS NOT PRESENT WHEN THE ALLEDGED INCIDENT HAS TAKEN PLACE. ASHFORD MEADOWS IS A PROPERTY THAT IS FOCUSED ON CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND FOR THAT REASON WE ARE OPEN SEVEN DAYS A WEEK WITH AN EXTENDED EVENING ON WEDNESDAYS. DUE TO THIS, EMPLOYEES ARE ENTITLED TO DAYS OFF AND EARNED VACATION TIME (WHICH HAS CONCERNED SOME OF YOU).
-AS FOR THE MANAGEMENT OFFICE, WE WOULD NEVER CALL ANYONE NAMES AND IT IS ABSURD TO HEAR THIS. WE USUALLY HAVE MULTIPLE EMPLOYEES IN THE OFFICE WHO ARE AWARE OF THE SITUATIONS AND WITNESS ANY EVENTS. WE ARE MORE THAN HAPPY TO LISTEN TO YOUR CONCERNS, BUT PLEASE BE PATIENT WHEN WE ARE TRYING TO EXPLAIN. SOMETIMES IT IS DIFFICULT TO HAVE ANY UNDERSTANDING WHEN THERE IS CONSTANT INTERRUPTION WHEN WE ARE TRYING TO EXPLAIN A RESOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM.

IF A RESIDENT, UNANNOUNCED, HAS CONTACTED A CONTRACTOR FOR SERVICES, WE CANNOT BE HELD LIABLE FOR THOSE CONTRACTORS ACTIONS.
