Enjoying my stay here

Guess there's been a lot of negative experiences here, so I wanted to post how I've had no trouble living here. It's been several months, and everything's gone smoothly. There's free, open parking to everyone and there's always plenty of spaces. My apartment is in great shape, except for a few window screens and a couple glitches here and there, to be expected. A few days after I moved in, I noticed my toilet would not stop running, so I called maintenance on a holiday afternoon, they came the next morning and replaced all of the toilet parts, not just the one that was broken, and it took 10 minutes. I've had no problems since. I've never had any problems with the girls in the office, and my rent has always been handled properly. And really, complaining about what your neighbors cook' That's not the apartment's problem unless you brought it up to the office, or maybe you should confront your neighbors about it first. The appliances have never failed me, and while they're definitely not top of the line stuff, they have always worked well. The only thing that's really annoyed me is that the A/C is old and inefficient, and sometimes turns on briefly even when I turned it off completely. I would like to stay when my lease is up, but since I got a special, the rent will shoot up and I may not be able to afford it.

well, we were "happy" for the first year also. I remain happy with the maintenance. They are great. The air conditioner does NOT turn on even tho you turned it off...they explained to me that it is the upstairs people whose is turning on, not yours, but you hear the noise as if yours went on because of the vent in the front hall. You have to get them to turn on your heater now that it is getting cold. They come to change it back for the air conditioning again in the spring, but you have to call them. They would rather do it...it involves something with the hot water heater, and they would prefer to do it each time. Ask them about the noise on the air conditioner, and you will see I am correct.
By the way, just don't ever try to ask them to hold a check. They do lie unfortunately. They are nice people, but liars. sorry, but you will only know this if and when you need them to be telling the truth. try not to depend on what the office people say because they really do not tell the truth.
Wanted to ad a note...they send you an offer by letter, about two to three months before your current lease is up....that offers you another "deal" to sign again, two months or so before the elase is up. It was a fairly small rent increase (maybe 5%??) so we signed again for another year. If you wait until the last two weeks before you have to move, and then go around and look for another apartment, you will find they all offer lots of "deals" in the last two weeks. Most people do not know this, and they go ahead, maybe a month or two, and then they pay full price. You must have found your apartment a couple of weeks or so before the date you wanted to move in.......that's how you got the "deal."
If you like it so well, stay...Just do not depened on the office for anything.....NOTHING. There are people who are yelling and making noise on their balconies and down on the parking lot now for weeks at 2 am, weekdays and otherwise! Sometimes at 4 am, 5 am, all nighters. The office does nothing unless you can tell them the actual apartment number the people are in. Now, who is going to walk up to these crazy folks and ask them their apartment number??? Maybe you heard them roaming the entire complex on halloween night, between 2 am and 4 am....laughing way too loud and yelling....I thought they were vanadalizing cars. They need some sort of system for monitoring the parking lots at night.....because the word is getting around that nobody does anything here...I think these folks are drug dealers starting to sit here (New York license plates, etc.) and they found out no one calls (because most are form Inida and scared to damage their chances of getting their green cards!!! from what they tell me.) So these drug dealers, I believe, have found a nice safe haven where the police do not suspect them. If you see or hear anything, please call the police, becfause this apartment complex could care less. [I wish they would hang out under the windows of the people in the management office...then maybe something would get done about it.]
The maintenance crew is great, tho.
Enjoy all you can about the place before it goes downhill, like everything else in Herndon seems to have been doing in the last five years.
