All of the glowing reviews must've been written by Van Metre staff as most of the tenants don't speak English. Expect to have roaches. Expect to see large groups of men hanging around the complex. There are signs in English and Spanish saying no loitering in hallways or in front of buildings but drive by and there are many, many, MANY people just hanging out drinking beer. You will get flier after flier on your door - all in Spanish. Expect to hear every step the people who live above you take. Expect the washers and dryers to increase price with no notice, and expect the machines to break down. Expect to not only share the 2 washers and 2 dryers with the other 11 apartments in your building, but with anyone from another building who wants to wnader in. The laundry rooms are also locked at 10pm to keep people from sleeping in them. Expect to see the cops - a lot.
When we moved in we were greeted with a memo from management telling people to be careful leaving their windows open after dark during nice weather due to security issues. Really, they recommend that you keep a good eye on your windows because people break in. The windows are only screened in on one side, so if you're on the ground floor someone could just walk in.
The management seems to have been hired more for their ability to speak Spanish than their ability to run an apartment complex. It's nice that people can eat cookies at the office, but when that's one of the selling points of the place it should tell you something.
Oh, and I strongly suspect that the ice cream man sells more than ice cream there, seriously, expect a truck to come through every 20-30 minutes even in February. Nobody eats that much ice cream and if they do, Giant and Baskin Robbins are a 30 second walk across Elden St.
In short, if you've ever wanted to live in a 3rd world country but didn't want to travel, move in here.
