Lots of problems

We have just moved in to Dulles Greene and we have already had several issues. We came in September to see what was available and informed the leasing consultant that we would need a 1-bedroom apartment and a garage to store a lot of stuff. She told us that there was a detached garage available across the parking lot from the apartment we wanted. The cost was $160/month on top of the rent. She also informed us that the building we would be in was a great place to live because they had so much parking around it.
At our move in we signed our paperwork and they made copies of our car registrations. That night my car was towed. When I realized that I hadn't received a parking sticker I went to the office and had 3 people rudely inform me that if you are renting a garage it is considered 2 assigned parking spaces and you do not get a parking pass. So we now have to juggle cars (one of which doesn't even fit in the garage) or get a 5 day visitor pass from the office. If we had been told in Sept. that the garage was for parking and not storage (despite the fact that $160 is a storage unit rental price) we would have never rented the garage. The staff, including the property manager, have all been extremely rude and unhelpful regarding this issue. We are not renting the garage in order to park a car, we need the storage space!
The explanation we've been given is that this a gated community and there is limited parking. However, we've looked at the parking lot at midnight and there are always at least 15 open spaces.
There's also NO visitor parking, due to the fact that people who live there and rent garages have to park in the 20 spaces that are available.
Other maintenance issues: our bedroom door did not close, we didn't get hot water in our shower, and our garbage disposal was not working.
The gym is a joke. The equipment is not very high quality and there is not much of it.
I doubt we would have rented from this complex if the parking situation was fully disclosed to us prior to move in. I think it is a very sneaky way to make money off of people by renting out these garages for parking and not informing people of the situation until after they get towed.

Couldn't agree more with everything said....Lived in 2002 thru 2004.....Seems like nothing ever changes there....in fact, they tried to sue me when I moved out...Called corporate office and was told it would be taken care of and lo and behold 4 months later I got another letter about the law suit. Again, I called corporate and the apologized all over themselves once again. Luckily, I haven't heard from this incompetent rental office/corporate again....
I wouldn't advise my WORST ENEMY to rent at the sub-par piece of crap apartment complex.

I'm sorry you have had these problems with Dulles Greene. They are pathetic and it totally amazes me that Corporate has not gotten rid of the entire staff. If you were willing and others were willing, I too would be willing to sign a petition that we can take to our governor or anyone who will listen regarding this place. I moved out at the end of my lease last year but while there, I thought I was going to get myself into trouble because the staff are the most unprofessional, unseasoned, incompetent, shoddy in conducting business, very protective of each other even if the staff is/was wrong and most of them with the exception of maybe one are liers! The property manager is useless, the assistant property manager was the worst. Even the person that deals with the checks, yes John was sad. He lost my rent check not once but twice, they never notified me although phone numbers were on the check and in the file. I came back from out of the country to find a 5-day notice to pay or quit...WHAT? I was furious! Then the kicker, John has the adacity to say, well if you can get us another check within a few days, we will waive all late fees...WHAT LATE FEES, you lost it not me in addition to telling me you found it but lost it again! The Assistant manager calls me a liar behind that incident, so when I complain to the property manager she makes excuses and justifies the rude and unprofessional conduct. But wait I'm not finished - I was so pissed off, I found the number for the Corporate Office located in Delaware or Pennsylvania, I forget exactly but the assistant there was a sweetheart! There was no DM (District Manager) at the time, this guy was above that position and spoke directly to me. He too made up excuses for their behavior which left me shaking my head. Then they also misrepresented something else. When we moved in, they told us about some program where if you live on the property for a year and decide to purchase a home, they would give you $5000 towards the purchase. Well low and behold, when I went to a Toll Brothers property as they recommended, I found out they lied. The $5000 would only be applied if you were BUYING a home as in SINGLE Family. I went to look at Condo's which they did not consider to be a home...If I had a dollar for each time those people did something not representation of the company, I might have enough to buy it from them! And parking, that was a joke, the gym....what gym..the kiddie gym where kids are allowed to work out (by jumping all over the equipment playing) at 10:00, 11:00 pm at night...10 and younger sometimes. The business office..what office, the office where the equipment barely worked or where you would have to wait for the kids to finish playing games on the computer, the pool....WHAT POOL! I posted a few responses myself and they had the nerve to reply apologizing defending that staff....telling me that rent is due by the 5th from everyone...duh...I paid it at the end of the month before I left to go out of town since I knew I would not be here on the 5th...Thanks for the response Genius but requesting a receipt was the brightest thing you said in your response and the only truth! Need I say more.....

It's like living at a large insurance company. They deny everything, get away with what they can, and are discourteous and unhelpful that you get the hint not to bother trying. They perform the minimum acceptable functions to abide by the terms of their contract.
They've called me a liar twice (once when I had my car towed because the signs they put up after 2am on a Friday Night said I had to move my car by 7:30am Saturday Morning... I was told straight up that, "no, I don't know who, but someone put those signs up days ago." Of course, no one knew who.)
When my roommate and I looked at the place, we were told by two agents (Leandra and one I can't remember) that we would get parking stickers and then we could store stuff in our garage.
There's a company-wide policy of "not me". No one knows whose responsibility anything is, and no one is willing to accept the responsibility for anything. If your car's towed, well, they have no idea as that's the towing company's responsibility and they have no control over that (which if true is an arrangement unthinkable in the 21st century, especially in a gated community). If something's broken you need to talk to maintenance, which is basically one guy (who's honestly the single most competent person I've met in the complex) on a golf-cart with apparently no form of direct communication to the office.
When the gym (which was quoted as 24 hour when we looked at the facility, but turns out to be somewhere between 18 and 20 depending on the mood of the unknown person who locks it... who not surprisingly no one knows who is or how to contact) had a door-security-system malfunction, it was entirely the security company's fault, and we'd have to wait a month for new doors. It wasn't until the third week someone finally was convinced to simply leave it open in the daytime. I was even told to "just deal with it, there are starving children, dude" when I asked if they'd consider a rent reduction since the contracted services weren't being offered.
The office staff sits around gossipping and laughing even as you walk in. Eventually the conversation stops as the deal with the unwelcome interruption, with the enthusiasm of a frat-boy ushering a policeman around a kegger party. I should add that it's been upgraded in the last 3 months from hostile to merely disgruntled, and I actually had a pleasant encounter with a staff member (whose name I terribly wish I'd remembered, as that should be mentioned)
I'm not going to conclude anything, honestly... If you have a lawyer willing to accompany you to the lease signing and document the terms and expectations, and you can deal with a relationship with your landlords ranging from apathetic to genuinely hostile in exchange for a reasonably-sized room for slightly less than comparable units and an accessible location, this place may well STILL be a good fit for you. Perhaps I merely lack that patience or have higher expectations.

I too lived at Dulles Green and moved after my lease was up. I see that even after 2 years things haven't changed. The whole complex is a complete joke. I too would not even think about suggesting this place to anyone...and I mean anyone.
Please tell me that Newie (that is not the spelling of her name), the Asian lady that assist you with your UPS/FEDEX packages that have been drop off..is she still there? I came in one day to pick up a UPS package, she greeted me by name. I asked about my package and she said, "I need to see some ID". I said you know who I am, you just called me by name and now you are asking for ID?
The manager is very crooked. We we thinking about renewing our lease to go to another unit (brain dead at the time), we put up our deposit for the other unit, since the deposits are not transferable, when changed our minds and decided to move somewhere else (Lionsgate, very nice place),and was told that our deposit was non refundable, even though we canceled before the deadline. They do a lot of crooked things.
I read these reviews and I can not believe that the management staff is still doing the same dumb stuff almost 2 years later.

Dulles Greene is by far the worst place to live! I could write a book about what I've been enduring since I changed apartments in October! I'm going to break my lease early, and can't wait to get the heck outta there! You are so right, they lie, lie, lie, are so rude, so unprofessional, and have no people skills whatsoever. They do cover for one another, and think they can insult your intelligence and make you look like YOU are in the wrong. I'm so sorry I didn't leave there when my lease was up. My attorney is looking over documentation/pictures that I have, and has agreed to accompany me when I go to break the lease. Its a shame that you pay a high rent for what you get there. I won't go on and on, as all the postings are so true! But, what goes around, comes around. They can't keep treating people like this.

I agree, I lived there for about 2 years and they treat you like crap, the young lady who does the pkgs is nice, but yes its stupid to ask for an ID when she knows you and the we also had our car towed even though it was parked behing our garage, (it was allegedly over the line) the whole towing thing, why not just stop it? everyone hates it, they get kick back (must) people would rather not have a place to park than deal with all the towing. Our disposal kept breaking, our washer ate our clothes, we had ants constantly. It seemed nice with the attached garage, patio, space but it turned out to be not worth it at all!! beware others must be better!!!
