My pick on DG

Well, I've just renewed a 14 month lease with no hesitation. After reading a number of reviews I'm feeling pretty lucky right now. I feel like I must have stolen something because I must have stumbled upon the one unit/location/experience that no one else knew about! But then, contrary to that, a large portion of my "luck" can be contributed to careful planning. First of all, I scoped out the place beforehand, asked a ton of questions and, important here, is that I only did business with David. Up to this day, whenever I have to conduct business, I only talk with David, who has always been nothing less than accomodating and caring. He cares and treats me with respect at all times (I imagine it's also because I do the same for him). If he's not there, I just return at a later date, so I've not had (or chose not) to deal with the others!
The other major problem, cited by most everone who reviewed, has not, is not and will never be a problem of mine. I simply rented a garage! Not only does it provide me security for my truck and added storage space for suitcases, boxes and such, but more importantly, it provides me the means to store my tools and service my vehicle! In addition to that, the space directly in front of the garage easily parks two cars, so my visitors always have a place to park! Incidental to this is, of course, the priceless piece of pulling out and driving away while others are scraping ice. Priceless!
I have also not experienced what many others have said in that (again, because of careful planning), I live on the top floor and have never, ever, ever hear my neighbors music, toilet, voices or anything else coming from below or the sides of my unit! Like another reviewer said - "either people are super quiet or the walls are not as thin as others have reported them to be"! The only time I even realize that people are living around me is the remote sound of an external door closing and the sound of people walking up the stairs or when I have the window open and I hear the sound of childrens voices... which is not a bad thing at all!
The few times I've noticed the gates wide open is when the weather is inclement - which I appreciate because it makes sense. On two other occasions I've seen problems with the gates - right after a pedestrian pushed the gate open to exit instead of walking a few more feet to the pedestrian gate! But then, maintenance was there the next day... as they always seem to be.
Speaking of which, I've not had reason to call them for any inhouse issue, but have the feeling they'd be there if needed in a reasonable amount of time. The times they've allerted me of inhouse maintenance (filters changes), they've always been there to complete the job with no evidence that they had. In other words, they never left a mess. I did receive notice of a blind issue, and they replaced it without fanfare.
My pre-move planning also finds me in a top floor, end unit, balcony with a buffer. I enjoy total privacy and peace whenever I step out to enjoy it.
Have to agree with the tenant who spoke highly of the grounds department. What a pleasure to have well maintained grounds! It not adds to the visual but excites a feeling of pleasure upon arriving home!
About the construction. My last dwelling was in Haymarket in a 8000 square foot, four bedroom, each with it's own bath - one point two million dollar house (she has the house now). So, I've a good sense of size and quality of build. I figure the reviewers who rated the structure as shabby must be in older units (I'm in Phase II), or just don't know any better. My unit is well build, sturdy (50 gallon fish tank), spacious (very large pieces, and a lot of them), well appointed (crown molding is very nice touch and installed properly). Don't do a lot of cooking but my girlfriend does and she makes her way around that little kitchen just fine. I use the washer and dryer almost every other day and it's not ever given me a problem, is not noisy and actually is a very nice amenity, as is the laundry room itself. The two bathrooms are of a nice size. The last place I lived, the two bathrooms (His and Hers) were, themselves, larger than this entire unit, so again, I think I have a good sense of room size and these are adequate enough for two adults.
Whenever I'm walking outside and run into a neighbor, they all seem nice and cordial - the same as you'd find on a military base where most everyones of the same mindset, so it's also a pleasant encounter.
Guess I just can't complain about the price either. I've always been willing and able to pay for quality and, at $1500 a month (including the garage fee)... for the size, location, build, atmosphere, support (David), and the total experience - did I mention my commute is only five minutes... I either must be the luckiest guy living in this "city" or I'm just a guy with his head in the sand who doesn't realize just how bad he really has it????
Sheeeezzzee people - stop complaining, put down the remote, get up off the couch and do something about your obvious miserable exsistence!!!

Thank you for this review. My husband and I will be moving to Dulles Greene in September and recently also met with David to discuss our move. He was so helpful and nice and I just do not forsee having nearly as many problems as most people here have posted. Even when reading the other posts I was thinking 'wow people must just be looking for something to complain about'. I think we will be happy at this apartment and it was nice to read a review that was optimistic instead of so negative like the other posts. Thanks!

Are you kidding. David is a big jerk. To my knowledge he has never help anyone beside himself. I wonder if David wrote that posting.

It is possible that the complaints of others have worked and your flurshing the benifits of their complaints. I would be a happy person also if I were in your situation. I am actually glad to hear this come from at least one or two people. I just hope your not management trying to boost the ratings.

Amen to that! I find NO ONE in that leasing office helpful except for Nui. Star is ignorant, and tells nothing but untruths, and then covers with "I'm sorry." They do not return phone calls, cover for each other, and act like the tenant is always at fault. Living at DG has caused me monumental stress; and I'm paying a fortune to break my lease and get outta there. I'm glad you're enjoying living at DG.
