Obviously most of the people who rate their apartments are doing so because they're displeased, so I'm not surprised that McNair Farms got so many negative reviews. However, having done a some research on our new apartment, I realized that I should probably put in my own two cents to balance out all these nay-sayers.

McNair Farms is a good place to live if you're resigned to living in Herndon (which my boyfriend and I were not). It's close to lots of great restaurants, most noteworthy being Minerva, one of the best Indian restaurants in the DC area. I always felt safe in the area, and the staff was friendly and helpful. My only qualm was the fitness center, which was scarcely more than a few ellipticals, a bowflex thing, two treadmills, and a broken rower. The pool is clean and has a very attentive lifeguard who teaches children swimming lessons. It's a great place for a new family or married couple, less so for younger people looking for a place with bars and theaters.

As long as you don't mind absence of a night life, this is a great place--ignore those who expect absolutely everything about their apartments to be perfect.
