Not what we expected

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2003
We came here in the spring, looking to make a move to Virginia, and were immediately lured in by the beautiful sales talk; surprisingly the leasing consultant with whom we worked is no longer working at this properthy...coincidence'''' My husband and I moved into the Townes at the end of Summer 2002. Fortunately for us, we had changed our mind on which unit to move into, as our previous first choice (which was supposed to be finished, or so we were told in May, by August 1) was not completed until late into the fall. We moved in, and were immediately hit with no hot water; due to the massively malfunctioning water heater, no phone; because our jacks were not wired correctly, and a month and a half with no cable; because the homes were not even wired for cable. UGGGGGGGGGGGGH! All of which, according to management, was "not thier fault."
We find that the space is just not enough for people having normal furniture, as we have trouble fitting our bedroom furniture in the master bedroom, and are using much of our garage to store the furniture we can't fit. We even had to rent construction equipment, as many have had to do, to get some things in the house by going over the balcony...I can't wait to see what it's like when we move out.
Fortunately, we've not had experience with poor maintenance...our concerns are met with responsiveness and courtesy. Maintenance is the one area where The Townes will get higher marks with me. Of course, we have more than a normal share of maintenance concerns, seeing as our home is of poor construction. Our water bill is ridicuous because the toilets are constantly running (and who wants to lift the tank to fix the toilet after every flush), the water heater is louder than loud and runs incessently, especially in the winter. We've spent most of the winter sleeping with the windows open; in order for it to be 65 degrees on the second floor, it has been 86 degrees in the bedrooms. Our ground floor...I have barely used it since November because it's so cold. The after-thought spaceheater in the wall is a joke that just hikes up the utility bills some more. Both bathrooms are on the uppermost floor, which is hardly convenient.
Our rent, with a "construction concession" is outrageous...and won't be worth it when the concession runs out at the end of our lease term and the rent resumes it's "normal market price." We lucked out of the amenities fees by way of a "preferred employer's discount", but there are a definite lack of amenities, especially when compared to other communities in the area with comparable rent prices. The staff did end up giving resident's gift certificates as a means of apology for paying the fee and not having use of the amenities...HA! We were given pages of our lease to sign months after we had moved in.
We, like many others, were lured in by a beautiful sales pitch that was just that...a sales pitch. Now that we're here, we're finding that these homes do not produce all that we were promised in our "luxury, top-of-the-line, new townhomes." Finding out that so many others are experiencing the same woes confirms our opinions about this place. Just a walk to the mailbox daily harkens a neighborly conversation about the problems we are experiencing. What a shame, this property had potential to be a wonderful place to live. I just find it average, and closer to below average...do your homework if you think you choose to live here. qmzu4EHcaGAPVCPw2Fai
