My wife and I were initially pleased with The Townes at Herndon Center. It had a good location, seemed attractive, and rather quiet. However, after living there for over a year and actually experiencing the loud neighbors, very poor construction/insulation, and borderline hostile management, we were VERY happy to be moving out.

First and most importantly, the insulation in the structures is almost nonexistent, and our heating/cooling bills were very high. Despite every effort to balance the vents and airflow, it was impossible to maintain a consistent, comfortable temperature throughout the day.

Also, the actual billing for rent & utilities through Equity was very disorganized and confusing, with frequent duplication of bills and charges, and the state of the grounds seemed in constant decline.

The types of the other tenants also seemed to decline as well, with many more loud parties, police being called, and even a street fight right in front of our door. Cars speed through the streets, and it was pretty dangerous to have my two year old walking outside with us. That, and the dog feces all over the grounds and playground led to a rather family-unfriendly experience.

Oh, and I should mention that after several bouts of extreme vandalism in the fitness facility, the management finally decided to secure it... but only after waiting for a few months, allowing the vandalism to continue. The fact that people from outside could easily get into that facility created an obvious unsafe situation.

Finally, upon move-out we were charged for "rug stains" but were not actually given the opportunity to walk through with the management to identify them. Equity never budged on that last item, and we finally just gave up.
