We're relieved that our lease expires shortly, and we'll definitely not pay the rent hike to remain in the apartment. Our apartment had just been renovated last summer right before we moved in. With the first heavy rain, our roof leaked over the hallway and kitchen and master bedroom areas. Even calling in an emergency maintenance request, the person they sent said that water was standing in copious amounts in the crawlspace of the roof and there wasn't anything he could do. One bedroom door was warped to where it won't close properly, and the paint on the trim has all but peeled away. The laminate flooring they laid in the bathrooms and kitchen areas bubbles up from underneath, and we have a foreign-born neighbor beneath us who screams at us every other week due to the squeaks in the floor which we have no control over. Apparently the previous tenant of this apartment is wanted by the Sheriff's department, as they have stopped by on three different occasions at all times to make certain he was not still living at the address.. Would have thought that some communication would have transpired between the office and the police rather than it becoming our inconvenience (yes, some 1-2am knocks! :/) For the money invested, we would have been better off someplace else. Only other gripe we've had is a wasp problem this spring.. every day at least 4-5 would find their way inside, screens loose.
