Horrible Place to Rent

I have a number of complaints about this apartment complex.
1) Horrible business practices. There are two examples that I can provide in the last 2 months. One is my lease was up for renewal, however the documents for a new lease was not given to me until the night before the deadline. So basically I was given less than 20 hours to make a decision to either sign for another lease or evacuate within 60 days. When I went to the leasing office to complain about the short decision time, I was notified that I was not the only resident treated this way. Considering this was during the work week, I had to be late to work to go to the leasing office to sort this out. I only signed up because due to I wasn't willing to additional spend more moving to another apartment when I am planning to purchase a home. The second incident is some sort of computer or leasing agent error which I got a letter stating that I owed $200 more even though I never missed a rental and water payment. There wasn't even a description on what the charge is for. This issue is still being sorted out. I get the feeling that is going to be another nasty experience with the staff since in the time that I have lived at the complex, I have witnessed at least 6 times staff having arguments with current or past residents in which lawsuits have been discussed.
2) Tardy water and sewage bills. The apartment complex sends water and sewage bills that are basically postcards. These small bills are often just wedged in the pages of junk mail and get lost or never received. However, if you call the office to ask what your bill is, typically you only get a rude response that 'the bill was sent in the mail'. Overall, staff is unwilling to help residents pay their water bills on time, I can only imagine it so that they can bill additional late fees.
3) Problems with Trash Compactor. As another reviewer mentioned, there is a serious problem with the trash compactor that is required. Often times, it breaks down and so the residents leave bags of trash around the site. This results in a huge pile up of trash around 4 ft high, 4 ft wide and 20ft long! The stench is unbelievable!
4) Rude Maintenance Staff. I was walking near the recycling and trash site when a maintenance staff saw me and accused me of having placed moving card board boxes in the paper recycling bin instead of the trash compactor. He then got hostile with me and demanded that I take all the card board boxes in the from the paper recycling bin to the trash compacter. But then again isn't that his job' Also considering that the moving boxes had the name of the owner written on it, wouldn't it have been prudent to check first if those boxes were affiliated with me' I think if he did, he would have realized that those boxes were put there by someone else. But then again, I do not think that most of the maintenance staff is functionally literate.
5) There are dog droppings everywhere and maintenance does not clean up often enough. On a warm or breezy day, the smell is horrible. Forget opening windows during good weather.
6) Problems with gym. While there is a gym, often times the equipment is broken and in my mind pretty dangerous. There is a treadmill that had been broken for nearly a year before it was fixed. The ironic thing is that it had this sign on it all that time stating that it would be fixed in two weeks. There are also weigh machines in which the pin does not always go all the through the slot. Also sometimes middle school again children hang out without their par
7) Problems with Business Center. While there is a business center often times the computers and printer does not work. In my opinion, it is pretty much as not having a business center to begin with.
8) Parking is a night mare and involves a tag to be placed in the car. However it is key to place the tag a in prominent location. Once my car was towed even though my tag was in place. To get your car, you have go this really seedy broken down place. The towing company used by the apartment complex demands cash only and DOES NOT provide change.
One final note, the sad thing is that I do not think that my experience here is unique, rather the norm. I have talked to other residents here and they have horror stories to tell as well.
Well I hope, that my experiences have been useful for those looking to lease here.
