Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2004
1) Parking is bad. There are too many work vehicles that don't even have complex stickers on them and they take up spaces that residents should be using. The guest parking is even worse because it's concentrated on one side of the complex, so some guests have to walk the whole complex to get to the apartment they're visiting.
2) Every apartment complex full of kids will be noisy. That's not an issue. But the people who live here think it's ok to have screaming matches in the breezeway, or yell across the commons at each other. If you don't mind feeling like your watching an episode of Jerry Springer, then this might be the place for you.
3) The trees are nice. The grass is being overtaken by weeds and clover though. And there are some worn spots because the sidewalk must be too hard on some residents' feet and they insist on walking on the grass rather than the sidewalk less than a foot away. Now there's no grass there at all and it turns to one big mud pit when it rains because there's no good drainage system.
4) Lighting is good. Too good. You need blackout curtains because you could read a book by the light that comes in through the blinds at night. But I've never feared for my safety, so that's a good thing.
5) The construction for the most part is ok. It's an apartment; you expect the bare minimum, right'
6) Maintenance is poor. Luckily I've only had to call them a few times, but the times I needed them they responded slowly, if at all. When they did come out, it took more than one trip to fix the problem. Some of the matters I either took care of myself or had a friends do for me rather than keep calling for the maintenance guys.
7) The office should come with a revolving door. There's only one person there that has been there any length of time, and she's very nice, but doesn't really know what she's doing half the time. Rarely can you get an answer right away, and if you do, chances are it's wrong. If you call back in a day, they tell you something different. And if they say they'll call you back, they won't. If you leave a message on the answering machine, it goes into a black hole. Overall, nice people but not the best to deal with.
8) I've only lived in one other apartment, so I don't have much to compare this to. I have to weigh the good against the bad, and for me the positives are still more than the negatives. Not by much, but they are. The place is ok.
9) Would I recommend this place' I don't know. The only reason I would recommend it is because of the price, but I don't know if that's enough. The complex doesn't enforce any rules, so there are some apartments full of people who aren't on the lease. That means there's more cars in the lot, more people using the laundry room and you can't get in, more trash on the ground because they don't seem to know what a trash can is for. It's not all the fault of the complex; a lot of the residents are dragging down the quality of the place.
