Years at this apartment: 1995 - 2004
My first 7 years the living was great. I had a ground floor apartment with a wood-burning fireplace. My rent back in 1995 with a first time renters special was $680 and when I left my rent was $1095. Pretty good for 2004. I noticed when the renovation of the Route 1 cooridor was getting underway, we had a lot of new "neighbors" move in. I believe that everyone deserves to live where they want, but be mindful that everyone doesn't have a housing voucher (no longer called Section 8) so we take pride in our apartment and grounds because we are paying more to live there. This is not to say that some who do receive the housing voucher don't take pride in their surroundings, I unfortunately didn't live next door to them. Let's just say there were several run-ins with my new neighbors. They were stealing from me, leaving trash in FRONT of my door, leaving trash in the hallways. Strange people hanging out in the hallway at strange hours, etc. I complained, wrote letters, and decided if the rental office is more concerned with the guaranteed rent of a housing voucher renter than one who has been a loyal tenant for over 9 years, then they can have them and I moved. I now reside in Alexandria and love my new neighbors.
