Internet sucks and there are no other options

The apartments are great, but the internet is obscenely overpriced and underperforms. You MUST purchase cable tv to get the internet--total cost: $120 per month. If you don't use the internet, it's a great place to live. The apts are nice and not too expensive for the quality. Unfortunately, I need the internet. Like a lot of people, I telecommute a couple days per week. I pay $120 per month for a 1mg download (which is a joke to begin with), but get around 300k on average (once, it clocked it at ISDN speeds--around 128k--that's dial up speed!).
As the other reviewer said, Verizon will not sell DSL in this complex (although all the homes around us can get it), and you can't get a satellite dish, or use any cable besides TA, so you're screwed.
I'm torn on my recommendation. I chose that I would not recommend Willowbrook because they aren't handling the internet situation well even though we are complaining. Also, the storage prices have gone up (doubled in 3 years). We are saving up for a house so we don't have to put up with this anymore.

Yeah I've got buddies on Cora Lee and Sunny Bank who get a 3.0 mbs "business" class connection from Verizon ($35/month, does not require separate telephone subscription). I'm pretty sure Tree of Life (which isn't directly connected by roads, but is very close in proximity) also gets a good internet connection. I've called Verizon several times and they won't tell me what's up. One time I got through to their tech department, and they said the apartment's lines were up to date and well within range of the switching station, and he even signed me up for service. Five days later, the order was cancelled and no one would tell me why or give any further information. I called Verizon again years later to see if there was any progress and the sales rep indicated that there was probably "an agreement with the ISP and Verizon can't offer DSL". It's very fishy. If I could afford a lawsuit, I would. Fortunately I'm leaving in a month and don't have to worry about it. If you need internet connectivity, there's a nice place on old forest road for less than $500 a month that has FiOS availability. No washer/dryer/hookups though, only laundy facilities. Unfortunately I can't remember the name though. Additionally nTelos won't even provide wireless internet service here because the apartment complex is kind of in a bowl. It's literally an internet dead zone.
Good luck with the house, I wish I had done that sooner.

That's what I've done since writing the original review. I tried wireless cards about 3 years ago and they stunk. They're much better now.

Wireless card-- no need for DSL or broadband... wireless card, pick it up and take it anywhere. Just plugs right into the computer. PC or laptop. $59.95/mo w/verizon or alltel. Great connection speeds. I too am at Willowbrook, I've taken my laptop all over the community here and have perfect service no matter what.
