I moved here in November, last year. The apartments are nice. I don't hear anything from my neighbors. Parking is good, I get a front row spot almost every day. The appliances are old, but that's not a big deal. No bugs. Pretty good for the money, if you ask me.
Then on Saturday night, there was an assault in one of the apartments. A man broke in and tied up the boyfriend then assaulted the girlfriend. On Tuesday, Carlyle Station put out a letter saying that the victims had left their porch or front door unlocked and that it is our responsibility to be safe. Door unlocked or not - to tie someone up and rape another person is messed up. I'm afraid to walk from my car to my door after dark. I've stopped using the gym (which is pretty nice as well). I wish that Carlyle Station had addressed the situation of safety in a more proactive way. I feel like they are blaming the victim and washing their hands of the incident.
All I know is, I'm leaving when my lease is up - before something happens to me!

They allow anyone into that complex. I've managed a complex and you can decide who lives in your community or not. They don't care, or have any regard to the residents there. I lived there and left before my lease was up because I didn't feel safe anymore. Believe it or not there are several staff that live in the complex and whenever there was any trouble they wouldn't even show their presence, they are a poor excuse for an apartment complex.

I completely agree. As much as it was sad what happened and I hope the victims are ok. The property management does nothing to help ensure this area is safe. Lighing is horrible around most of the buildings and especially in the rear of the buildings. Even though they do background checks and credit checks this does not stop "straw renters" these are people who provide information as if they are moving in and it is really someone else. In addition to this recent incident 2 weeks ago they busted a prostitution ring from one building. The management company is very nieave about what happens here. The day the home invasion happened the management office knew nothing about it at all.

I asked when I first moved in how the process was for letting people live there and how safe it was. They of course do the back ground check and try to make you feel safe by saying that police actually live at the complex, but when it comes down to it a back ground check is just that and doesn't tell you how the person will act in the future. I have also seen sever other incidents around the complex but have not heard anything about it. 2 months ago there were cops around the office at 11:30 at nice with lights on and speaking to many people, and not once heard what's happening. For the price I'm paying and how much they have raised our rent in the past, they should be able to afford better lighting, security and even cameras if need be. I also will be leaving ASAP if not sooner.

I moved in recently and have realized many things with the area. THEY LET ANYONE IN!!! DO NOT LIVE HERE. Not only that, the washer and dryer SUCK!! I washed 2 towels, and dryed them 4 xs and they were still wet. NO LINT filter the stackables are trash. You can smell smoke coming through the vents when someone below you smokes. People are pigs, they throw there stuff all over the place and no one says anything. I made the mistake of not realizing they make you pay for your own WATER< TRASH< ELECTRIC< ETC> I pay nearly 1200 a month and get nothing but a spartment that stinks half the time because of the smoke and is loud from all the stuff going on.

My husband and I moved in Aug 09 this is our first month so far we love it . Lighting could be better . As far as security goes it is as secure as any other apt complex in Manassas.( Unless you live in gated & then there is no gurantee )The a/c is old but let's face it has been extreamly hot summer.The balconys are shaded wth trees.The trash on the property & around I think we all know where it comes from , most of it you can look at cars its near whats hanging from rear view mirrors & know . I have no children so maybe would feel differently if had children . But our building is very quiet.As of now totally happy with my new apt . Also the apt rep that introduced us to our home was wonderful .Upfront about utilities all rules & regulations.WE LOVE IT !!!!

I was the original poster and I would like to add that since the incident in May, Carlyle Station has attempted to beef up security as much as they can. They tried to start a neighborhood watch program. I did not join or follow up, so I don't know if it took off. But to my knowledge, there have been no other incidents to report. As far as the management - I think they are great. They are very friendly and responsive to my problems. They do as much as they can. Some things are beyond their control. My apt had ants when I first moved it. I bought $2.50 worth of ant traps and made sure not to leave any food out overnight and Voila - no ants. I've seen one silverfish, maybe 3 spiders in the span of a year. But really, no apt will be 100% bug free. I love the layout of my 1bedroom. I am moving to Maryland in a couple months and quite frankly I am bummed. I do not want to leave Carlyle Station.
