Generally Good

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2009
My husband and I lived at the Fields of Manassas for two years. While there are some negative aspects to it, I think it's safe to say that the good outweighed the bad.
When we first moved in, we were impressed by how large it was. The rent is on the high side, but that's pretty much expected for the area and compared to surrounding complexes, the price actually seems more reasonable (especially for the size). The apartment itself was excellent to live in; I never ran into any problems with utilities or anything like that, except for the dishwasher that didn't do that great of a job washing the dishes. When the washer/dryer broke, it was replaced with a new unit in a timely manner. Both showers had good water pressure, the carpets were wonderful, and the closets were spacious.
The maintenance staff was friendly and did an excellent job. The office staff were courteous and seemed to genuinely care about the complex. There was a relative swamp next to my patio due to a gutter that wasn't draining correctly, but I imagine the problem would have been fixed had I ever thought to complain about it (which I didn't).
The only thing I can really think of that I disliked were the neighbors. The noise tended to be a problem - my husband and I liked to joke that the people above us were playing catch with bricks. Also, towards our last few months living there, the fire alarm in the apartment building adjacent to ours would go off at all odd hours during the day (though it would mainly happen in the afternoon - and never at night, that I noticed). There were also a few problems in the beginning involving people throwing lit cigarette butts into the grass and starting fires by accident, but that ceased after the management sent out a letter addressing the issue. I once had an item stolen off my porch (not an expensive item, but I happened to be sitting just inside the sliding door and watched it happen).
Also towards the last few weeks we were living there, we ran into the problem of the kids who lived in the apartments nearby throwing things off their balconies. I once watched a kid throw an entire roll of toilet paper off his balcony and into the grass. The people who moved in above us had a kid that threw all sorts of things off the balcony including toys and other not so pleasant items. We did complain to management, and they said they would keep an eye out, but that was a week or so before we moved out so I'm not sure what happened with it.
Overall, I enjoyed living there. There were minor irritations involved, but nothing so serious that I wouldn't recommend it to a friend. However, I am rather easy-going; others might find that sort of thing harder to put up with.
