Rude, unresponsive employees.
Cheaply made apartments...not sealed properly...this causes very high heating and cooling bill.
Appliances falling apart. Had 4 repaired/replaced within first year.
Very rude and noisy neighbors. Management will do nothing about it.
Ridiculous fees for being late, paying over the phone, paying on line, getting out of lease early.
Worthless front gate. Never closed or open at appropriate times. Constanly broken.
Apartments located in center of a "seedy" neighborhood.

*UPDATED*

The nightmare continues.

When my family and I turned in our keys, staff member (we'll call her "LO") LO loudly called out to my husband saying, "You can't just leave! You haven't given us our notice yet!!!" The other staff member my husband was working with said, "Yes they have...a month ago". LO then sayed, "Oh" and simply walked away without apologizing for embarrassing my husband and herself.

We should have realized that the staff here doesn't know what they are doing half the time then, but what happened next caught us off guard.

Yesterday we recieved an email with claims that we owe Masons Keepe money for our electric and gas bill. The email, penned by LO, claimed that the utility companies had contacted them (instead of us') to collect the amount for electricity and gas used after our move out date on July 22, 2009. The email asked us not only for the money to pay for the utilties that we didn't accrue and that were no longer in our name but also for the account numbers to these now closed accounts.

And in the final paragraph of this email, LO asked us to also turn in our August rent if we haven't done so yet.

Apparently this company doesn't keep very good records of who does and does not live there. Not a very safe way to run a business.

We contacted both these companies to verify that the claims made by Masons Keepe are, if anything, illinformed, and they corraborated that the amounts being claimed to be owed to Masons Keepe were not accrued by us or the accounts we carried at the time.

LO has been emailed back with copies of the final statement from NOVEC and Washington Gas but conviently enough, emailed us on the last day, in the last hour, before she went on vacation for a week. Whether or not she responds is anyone's guess. But we are hoping Masons Keepe chooses not to pursue this matter any further.

It's a shame when things like this have to happen. But, for whatever reason, it has happened. And now we just have to hope that Masons Keepe chooses to drop their unfounded claims, lest we contact our family lawyer and finalize this issue in court.

We had the exact same experience and wouldn't recommend this place to our worst enemy.

Everyone should be suspicious of anonymous commenters. If you're going to rant about a place, have the guts to put your username on it. I've lived in the same apartment at Masons Keepe for three years and all of my appliances work very well, I keep my utility bills low by having weatherstripping installed under the door and keeping my thermostat low in winter and high in summer. Honestly, the people who complain the most are usually the ones who never paid their rent on time and tried to circumvent the lease.

I didn't realize that by posting anonymously it would reflect my lack of guts. This is my username. I'll even go one step further. My name is Tamara Graves. I have a feeling that you, nothoney, are more than likely affiliated with Masons Keepe in some way or another. But that would be making an assumption and we wouldn't want to do that. Fact is this: my husband and I have never been late on our rent or any of our bills. These complaints I'm making are LEGITIMATE. And based on years of renting experience. If you don't like what I have to say, I could really care less. But don't be foolish enough to assume that because we don't agree, I'm in the wrong.

I lived at Mason's Keepe shortly after they opened even while they were still finishing apartments in 2005. Our refrigerator wasnt working the day we moved in and didnt know it till the next day. The office didnt seem to care about that and werent in any hurry to fix it. It was almost 2 days till we had it working in the heat of the summer! We had to go buy ice to keep the food we brought with us cold so it wouldnt go bad. The freezer broke two more times during the year we were there and the washer twice. Neither of those times were they in any hurry to come fix it. I believe we went 4 days till the washer was fixed. The people below us were running some kind of halfway house with teenage kids there all the time hanging out in the parking lot almost 24/7. In the end they were smoking pot and it was wafting up to our balcony. I called the office and they said "oh we know about it. We've called the police several times and every time they come out they take off and run". Yet they do a background check there?????? We also had noisy neighbors but then again they are apartments with thin walls. Sundays all you heard all day long was spanish music and talking coming over some PA system from that camp that's on Rixlew. The gates as the others have mentioned worked when we first moved in then most of the time werent. It wasnt a horrible place to live....I've seen worse but the management could be alot better and helpful. I once was 15 minutes late with my rent and they tried to charge me some ungodly fee...for 15 minutes? Thankfully I was able to get that waived after complaining to higher management. They charged us a clean up fee for the cat I had but did the walkthrough when we weren't present. Also I paid a non refundable $250 pet fee so I don't know how legally they were able to charge us more especially when we were not present to do the walk through.
