I lived in westgate until 2 months ago, from 2001.
I did not have a whole lot of problems with bugs, but I did have a lot of problems with excessive entry by staff.

An average of 3 times a month, the staff would enter my apartment. Sometimes there was no notice whatsoever, or if i had not checked my mail in the last day or so..i would not know.
It was constant and they were leaving notes that were, frankly, embarrassing.

Examples include: "apartment was cluttered", "dishes in sink" , etc.. on the maintenance slips.(when entry was to "check battery in smoke detector" or whatever)
Then they would come a week later to do a walk-thru to make sure my apartment was clean.
It was embarassing and ludicrous. I have 2 jobs, a day office job and an evening business i run personally.
Sometimes i would leave dishes in the sink.
That should not be the concern of the staff at westgate. I have never had this type of intrusiveness before, and i have never had anything more than 2 dishes and a couple of utensils in the sink. NEVER.

They NEVER had to do anything but walk through, but it was a constant annoyance and inconvenience.
It was simply offensive, considering the odors, bugs, and overcorwding evident in apartments all over the complex.

Also, they placed, TWICE, a large orange sticker on my vehicle threatening to tow it away...WHEN I HAD A CURRENT PARKING STICKER.
It took me more than an hour to remove it completely from my window. both times.
I complained, they promised not to do it again.
Then 2 months later, they did.

Oddly enough, i saw these stickers quite often--but in the 3 years i was there, i never saw anything actually get towed.
I suspect they cannot afford to pay a towing company or something.

There were drug deals in the parking lot.

A drunken resident crashed their car INTO the leasing office, requiring me to track down a rear door to pay my last month's rent.

Children ages 1-12 or so are constantly running around in the parking lot and stairwells. There are children in diapers playing in the PARKING LOT. I have actually had to call child services twice to come and get a child who was obviously less than 3 out of the street.

The building one building block over (still in westgate) remained abandoned due to a fire, with ZERO work on it, for more than a year. They closed part of the parking lot off for construction dumpsters which remained empty, so i constantly had people from that apartment area parking in my parking lot.

They just started work on that building when i left. If i lived closer to that building i would have been appalled.
There were bums and such that were obviously making it their home in the evenings.

My girlfried refused to visit me at my apartment without me there to escort her from her car because large groups of teenages and sometimes bums or men who did not speak english, would harass and make comments to her. One actually grabbed her arm.

There is actually a police substation in one of the buildings, but there are police cars in the parking lots on a daily basis making arrests nonetheless.

I have witnessed numerous residents entering aparments through rear windows, who are obviously sub-letting rear rooms, and do not have agreements with the apartment office.

I ahve also seen people searching through the dumpsters daily.

Fortunately i got a raise and my business actually made some money. I would NEVER EVER live there again, unless i was completely broke.

There are numerous apartment buildings in the same area which are much better. There are apartments by the mall, some behind walmart, and apartments in manassas park behind the pizza hut and shoppers.

All of those cost less and are much more safe and clean and generally decent to live in
