Here's why:
1-Rude staff; The guy who works at the front desk thinks he is doing you a favor doing his job.
2-Sirens; You hear them going on dolly Madison at all hours 24/7.
3-Vandalism; There have been a number of car vandalisms at both indoor garages and the outdoor parking spaces. GOMS does not have full surveillance of the parkings and few cameras that they do have are usually broken.
4-Big brother style management; You can't hang anything on your balcony. No plants, not chimes, nothing. Unless you want to get fined.
5-inadequate garbage disposal area; It is too small, too smelly, and always overflowing. They have some sort of a round-about system around it to keep up with the traffic. But they pull the dumpsters out in the morning and block one side. Incoming and outgoing traffic have to squeeze through one side and if you are the outgoing, be prepared to get called names by the incoming traffic.
6-"Gated community" myth; I see a bunch of teenagers using the basket ball court that don't look like they live there. They squeeze through the gate when it opens.

Agree. I HATE this place. The management staff are patronizing, ignorant, and too bored in their stuffy desk jobs to do anything else but harass and belittle the residents. They are more than rude; they are spiteful, vindictive, and self serving. They spend their days chatting in the club house and thinking of ways to institutionalize and condemn a decent living complex into an overrun concentration camp of unfortunate residents who have no choice but to cave to their rulings or move.
DO NOT move here. Biggest mistake I have ever made. Why would anyone want to live under a bullying dictatorship that has no concern for your quality of life, but rather places added undue burden to each day of your life. I feel bad for the employees of this management. I feel bad for the residents, and I feel sorry for the despicable people who run this place and make it their sole occupation and aim to aggravate the lives of ordinary people, living in these modest, even substandard homes and community.
Gates of McLean simply sucks.
