A decent place to live

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2004

I moved in Fall 2002 and will be moving out in Spring 2004 since I'm relocating out-of-state.

LAYOUT:

I loved the layout of my 980 sq ft. 2 bdrm/2 bth (living room/dining area is one single, large space). Family & friends have commented that it is the best layout I have lived in so far (this was my 4th apt.). I loved the nice, square deck (finally a deck big enough so that I could place all 4 chairs around my round patio table)!

MISC:

I had excellent storage space here and because my unit faced a wooded area, I only had a couple noise issues (did not hear a lot of activity from the neighbors upstairs though). Nice features included a double sink in the kitchen (but they are not as deep as I would like), an ice-maker, small linen closet in the master bath, a french door instead of a sliding glass door for the deck and an open kitchen so I could clearly see the TV from in there. Huge plus--my door had 2 dead bolt locks and required a key to lock it on the outside; this prevented accidental lock-out which was great because that happened to me at a former apt. once and I was charged a $25 "lock-out/re-entry fee"--ripoff!

MGMT/MAINT:

The management was pretty good (they were responsive & had positive attitudes) and the maintenance crew was timely. I was offered a satisfying deal when I moved in and got this unit for $699/mo plus $15/mo "view fee" (totalling $714/mo) for the first year. My rent upon leaving is $724/mo.

LOCATION/LANDSCAPE:
< complex is located in a terrific (but growing) area for groceries, gas, shopping, restaurants, movies, interstate/highways and services like physicians/dentists/vets/groomers. Plus it is VERY easy to give guests directions how to get here because it is easy to find. The complex is definitely pet-friendly as well. Lastly, the landscape provided plenty of roads & paths to go walking/jogging around the complex. Oh, and I was here during Hurricane Isabel in 9/03 and we only lost power for 24 hrs and they had trees cleaned up in just a few days.

NEGATIVE COMMENTS:

The only real cons I guess is the low-quality carpet in my unit, terrible snow removal on sidewalks & the parking lot, dog owners do not clean up after their pets, parking lot lights flicker on & off which can be a little intimidating when youre alone outside late at night. There is a "mail hut" you have to drive to, cannot just run to some mail slots on the first floor like I have had at other apts (but you can receive larger packages from the post office, they have an effective system for delivery). I had a bit of a bug problem when I first moved in, but a couple months of "roach motels" placed throughout the unit took care of the problem for good. The only noise problems I had involved occasional "traffic" on the building's stairwells and there was a neighbor who liked to talk on the phone loudly while on his deck once in a while and his muffled voice came right into my bedroom. The complex is not exactly new or modern, but it is certainly not in bad shape at all, in my opinion.
