High rent, odd floorplans - not the best in town

These apartments are older and the floorplans are very strange - small kitchens, bedrooms border each other (not good for louder roommates) and master bedroom built in "modern" fashion - with no door to bathroom! Washer and dryer are right when you walk in the front door, which didn't seem right. Overall, the design of the apartments just seems odd and not practical. Also, brand new apartments just opened a block away which are much nicer and have lower rent! The grounds are really nice, and the area is safe, but if I'm going to pay $1,000 in rent, I want a better apartment.
