Arboretum Place is one of the better apartment complexes in the greater Newport News area. *The staff will evict idiots after 3 warnings, which is a great plus for those of us who pay rent on time and are RESPONSIBLE tenants. There is a train track that runs behind the apartment complex. You might hear the rumble of the train once every couple of days, sometimes more than others.. but by no means is it loud. We lived literally a stones throw from the track before moving to a larger unit on the west side of the complex, where we have an end unit and the neighbors are virtually dead silent. The worse thing I have experienced in the 4 yrs. here, are the few ignorant people who drive their cars into the parking lot at 3am, with their music loud enough for the whole apartment complex to hear.. as if they are driving through the ghetto. THOSE types of people are the worse element here at Arboretum, and each year it seems to get worse.
It is very easy to hear people walking above your apartment unit if you live on the 1st or 2nd floors. Luckly we are on the 3rd.
The office staff is kind and courteous, and I've never experienced any problem. * When I have a problem with the apartment (only twice), I do what any college educated, reasonable person would do.. I put my request in WRITING! I then give it to the office staff, and have them sign or initial my copy. THE NEXT DAY, my requests have been met. We had a fridge go out, and it was replaced the same day.
The Newport News Airport is only a 5 minute drive away. The apartments lie under the final approach path to one of the runways. As a pilot I can tell you, you seldom will find planes landing over the apartment building since the main runway final approach path is over a mile to the north.
*Towing: There is MORE than enough visitor parking. In fact, what the other poster didn't say, is that there is an entire parking lot near the entrance of the complex, that is rarely used and ALWAYS has at least 20 vacent spaces.
It sounds to me like the initial poster is disgruntled due to probable eviction, and or had his car (or a friend's) towed, due to not being able to FOLLOW DIRECTIONS. I am glad that Arboretum Place has an aggressive towing policy. This makes the riff-raff have to pay for being ignorant!
The 2br apartments are about 1020sf give or take depending on model. The units are decent with balconies. The area in which the complex is located is excellent! I would highly recommend that a family definitely check out Arboretum Place before other apartments in the area.
The closer you get to Ft. Eustis, the more 'ghetto' the apartment complex driving northernly. The same is true when you get close to Mercury Blvd. driving southernly. Arboretum Place is pretty much in the middle off of Oyster Pointe Road. Wal Mart, the airport, mall, various department store shopping, new car sales, computer/pet/toy/book stores, and many eateries are literally a few minutes away.
I would say with confidence, that most that would gripe about this apartment complex in an immature fashion, are likely those undesirable people who you wouldn't want to be your neighboy in the first place.. and I have nothing but high praise that Arboretum Place has the guts to enforce rules to rid them from the hair of the rest of us.

First off.....Arboretum is NOT the best place in Newport News to live. LOL. It's certainly not the worst....but is by no means even remotely close to the best. Secondly....the parking lot you so mentioned at the entrance of the apartment complex is GREAT if you live in the VERY front. If you are like me and have bad hips and a bad knee however walkiing to my building (which is located at the VERY back of the complex) is not a pleasant walk. Nor is it very safe late at night for a woman to be walking that far. No matter what the age. The fact is...if you live at the very front of the complex than parking is no problem at all. However, If you live in one of the VERY back buildings plan on walking if you can't arrive home before 8pm. As for the noise....some buildings may be different from others. I understand that. And also as tenants move in and leave that will change. However if you do happen to get a noisy neighbor below you then you will most certainly be disturbed by that. I've lived 4 other apartments before and this is the first one I've ever had a problem with when it came to noise. I know for a fact that in my very first apartment the guy above me wrote music. I never once heard him ever playing. However the guy I currently live above loves his electric guitar and makes it a point to play it constantly. I can hear it plain as day and it has woke my husband up MANY times and he's a much deeper sleeper than I. So all in all beauty truely does lie in the eye of the beholder with this complex. With so many buildings and all located in different areas I'm sure each one has their good sides and bad. In my eyes the buildings located at the back are good because you are away from all the other buildings and don't get disturbed by the loud music that some feel the need to jam in their cars. However the parking is horrendous and for me that is the biggest matter. I don't expect to be able to park right outside my door but I also don't expect to part so far away that I feel unsafe walking to my apartment alone at night. It's as easy as that.
