Hello there. My husband and I have lived here since October. We will not be renewing our lease. A few tips to those apartment hunting: Ask police officers for the areas they get called to least. Ride through at various times of the day and night--you want to make sure you will feel comfortable. ASK TO SEE A UNIT READY FOR MOVE IN NOT JUST THE MODEL!! This will give you a better idea of what you're moving into!! A second floor unit is always safer according to the police.
PROS:
*Location--it's close to pretty much everything you need to get to in Newport News.
*Floor plan is nice and spacious; we have a 2br 1,000sq feet.
*A Newport News police officer lives on site, we have his cell phone number.
*Lots of electrical outlets, and a ceiling fan in the dining area.
*They take $40 off the rent if you wear a uniform with a logo on it.
*Multiple aundry facilities on site.
*Pool and playground for the kids.
CONS:
*Management has changed EVERY MONTH since we have been there and things that the first manager said they would fix are STILL not fixed!! (And there's a long list.)
*Maintenance comes over, works for a little bit, then leaves half finished jobs...Granted, I don't know what their other priorities are. Last time they LEFT THEIR WORK ORDER LOG. WAY IRRESPONSIBLE. AND THEY LOST THE KEYS TO OUR APARTMENT!!
*LOUD MUSIC, LOUD CARS, LOUD NEIGHBORS ... Yes, it's apartment living, but still.
*Some of the laundry rooms have overflowed and they weren't fixed. I personally unplugged machines while water poured OUT of the drainpipe!
*Many of the screens in the windows are busted.
*EMPTY PROMISES FROM APARTMENT MANAGEMENT. MY HUSBAND LIVED IN ANOTHER GREAT ATLANTIC PROPERTY BEFORE HERE AND IS STILL DEALING WITH ISSUES AT HIS OLD COMPLEX WHILE TRYING TO GET OUT OF HIS LEASE NOW THAT WE GOT MARRIED! WE CALLED GREAT ATLANTIC AT THEIR CORPORATE OFFICE IN VA BEACH THREE TIMES AND NEVER A RESPONSE.

This review was completely truthful. The current Resident Manager, Julie, and her current staff have been WAY more helpful at resolving issues than any other group that has come through. They have been polite and resourceful. Our fridge was fixed, we were given a gift card reimbursement. A few other issues were resolved quickly, but half of the list is still currently outstanding. I have appreciated the work they have been doing, and it has helped, but we are still desiring to leave. We filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau at the time of the original review, and that is when action started being taken. I am responding to my OWN review, anonymously, and any questions can be directed to me at: s.k.sica@gmail.com
