In short, residents are an annoyance to these people.
They are very strict: rules say you cannot use your outside closets or even pull up your blinds. Management enters apartments all the time for inspections, and they'll bill entirely at their discretion, whether or not the lease calls for it. Basically, it's against the rules to make the apartments look "bad" on the outside, which is why it looks so good. Residents are afraid of billing.
They have no interest in discussing matters; they're short with residents; and they have no respect for the idea that the apartment should be a comfortable environment. Most importantly, they're simply unprofessional.
One example that summarizes it all: say they want to repaint the lines in the parking lot. They'll tack a note on everyone's door a day or so before threatening to charge for towing of any cars not moved out of the way. No "please," no politeness at all, and if you happened to be away from your apartment when the message was delivered, too bad.

I belive you...I called the office just to get information and was treated rudely over the phone. The young lady I spoke with was not friendly and made me feel that she was doing me a favor by speaking with me. She did not make me feel as if I would be welcome, and asked to speak with the manager. The manager spoke curtiously, but when I mentioned that I did not feel I had good customer service, she told me that it was not true (was she calling me a lier?), and she was listening to the entire conversation between myself and the young lady...??? I did not speak rudely, just asked questions. If this is the kind of customer service I am receiving just by asking questions, living there and having to deal with these people must be a nightmare. Wow!
