My honest opinion...

Here are the good things:

- The location is -fantastic-. It's close to the highway, it's a fairly safe neighborhood(though I have heard gunshots as some of the other reviews mentioned), it seems very family friendly.
- The apartments themselves aren't bad. They are big as advertised.
- They're pet friendly, and they even waived the pet fee for my cat.

Here are the bad things:

- All except maybe two members of the office staff are -rude-. If you try to bring up any issues, they get defensive and mean. They're not helpful. They do the least amount of work possible to anwser your questions. They're beligerent and passive agressive. Every time I had to deal with them it was a headache. There's one woman imparticular that I won't name names, but she is a total pain. She doesn't care about the tenets or anything else, and she's lazy and mean. This included telling us that she didn't really care what we had to say about the apartment, that our opinion was meaningless to them.
- Upkeep is -non-existant-. When I moved in, my air conditioner wasn't working. I went over there almost every day for the first week I was there. My -father- eventually came out and fixed the problem. It was on and off from then on, and eventually I just stopped using it. And of course, come winter, my heater didn't work. Got it fixed after much headache and strain, but when it was time to move out in August, on days where the temperature and heat indicies were over 100, once again the AC ceased to work.
- My hot water went out and nothing was done about it.
- Worse and most negligent of all, however, was when the water heater upstairs had a leak. I had -standing water- in my apartment for over a week. I called every day and put in a work requests. First they gave me a bucket, which was filled up by the first day. I eventually got sick of it and I called the emergency line one Saturday. It took them quite some time to call me back and when they did, they told me to just put some towels on it. When I told them that was not acceptable, I was offered $5 to -buy- towels, when I noted that still wasn't acceptable, they told me that they'd rented their wet-dry vac out to another property and there was really nothing they could do. Once again, my dad had to come out and help me, but this was after a week of having, I repeat, -standing water- in my apartment. I got really sick shortly afterwards. They promised me they'd steam the carpet, and they did not.
- I was told I was getting hardwood floors and then got an apartment with carpet, which, wasn't -that- big of a deal, but still. Be warned that some of them -do- have carpet. And when you go to leave, they insist that you pay to have the carpets steamed. Which, I'm sorry, no. If I'd gotten the hardwood floor promised I wouldn't have to have it steamed, now would I'
- My neighbors were all really nice, but I could hear everything that went on on the apartment above me. This included when they woke up at close to 4am every morning, to the more private matters between husbands and wives, including sex and arguements. I couldn't necessarily hear every word said, but if they got to yelling, I could hear a lot.
- There is a lot of rust in the water. Which is probably more the area then the apartment it's self, I'll admit, but usually when I turned on the faucets, a lot of rust would come out, which as you can imagine was horrible on my hair.
- I don't know about all of the apartments, but my apartment was very poorly lit. The living room only had one dim ceiling fan and the bedroom had no overall lights at all. Which, it was fine during the day, but at night it was extremely hard on my eyes. And as a student, this was a poor situation to be in.
- I didn't pay to have the washer and dryer in my apartment, so I have no idea what's that's like. However, the laundry facility provided was horrible. It was small, usually not very clean, not something I ever wanted to take my clothes it. It was expensive for tiny washer and dryers that I could barely fit all my sheets into one load and usually after using the dryer I had to hang things up to dry some more.
- The apartment's themselves are old. Which wouldn't be a problem if they were better taken care of. But simply be warned of that.

I do not reccomend Concord Lakes at all. I love Newport News, and if I ever get the opprotunity to live there again, I most certainly will. But you'd seriously have to pay me to deal with this headache again. I'm glad to be gone, though I'm not completely done with them yet, as much as I'd like to be.

I find your complaints unbelievable, who would have "standing water in their apt. and just let it go? basically its seems like you had regular apt problems, that were probably taken care of in a timely manner.....but you probably got evicted and owe a bunch of money, and this is your only way to "pay them back.
