Worst Apartment in the World Award Goes to...

I'm so glad I found this website, because I was wondering how in the world I'd let people know NOT to live here. Do not live here. Here is a long list of the problems we had while living in this crap-hole:
1. The gate never worked. Apparently, they keep "fixing" it, but it continues to break. It is NOT a gated community.
2. The walls are paper-thin. We heard our neighbors on the phone, having sex, screaming in the middle of the night at each other, etc.
3. The office staff are all idiots. None of them know what they're doing. Anytime we had a question, either they didn't know or they said they'd check and we didn't hear back from them. Even after moving out, I tried to reach Kimberly regarding a bill and couldn't get a hold of her. One time, I was told she had to take her dog to the vet, and another time she was at a baby shower. If I left a message, she never called back.
4. The maintenance guys know less about maintenance then my 4-year-old niece. They never actually fixed anything, just came in and patched it up until it broke a week later. They didn't even know how to anchor our closet shelves so they would support weight. Oh, and the one maintenance guy looked like Ron Jeremy... gross.
5. We paid a $75 cleaning fee at move in, yet we found dog hair and food on the floor. The living room floor smelled like dog urine and we ended up having to clean the carpets ourselves after we moved in and it took 9 months to get reimbursed for that- they lost the receipts.
6. We had bugs. Many different kinds of bugs. Everywhere.
7. Mold. Everything molded, which is somewhat understandable considering we live in a humid place, but they did nothing to prevent or clean it.
8. Our smoke detector had been painted over when we moved in and was not operational for nearly a month until we complained five times and they finally came to replace it. I bet they painted over that when we moved out, too.
9. We had faulty wiring- our electrical outlets didn't always work.
10. There is only one dumpster and it's a pain to get to, especially for people who live on the other side of the complex.
11. The contracted repair people were idiots, too. The painters climbed onto our balcony to paint (without notice or warning) and took down our American flag, leaving it in a crumpled pile on the balcony floor. They tore up our staircase and left in the middle of the day- leaving our banister hanging off our stairs and boards with giant nails poking out of them on the ground. When we complained to the office, they said they didn't know who the workers were because their main office hired them.
12. The gutters hadn't been cleaned and every time it rained, the lawn flooded. We lived on the second floor, but the balcony on the first floor always flooded, and I'm sure the rain got in their apartment. When we complained about the gutters, they said they hadn't cleaned them because they were getting new ones. That was partially true- about a month later they replaced SOME of the gutters, but left a lot of the old ones there, uncleaned.
13. The two pools that they have were both crap. The rear pool was the only one with a kiddie pool (which was filthy) and neither one of them were open when they were supposed to be. Either the lifeguard was on a three hour break, or they just didn't show up, which was often. And they usually only had one of the pools "open" at a time.
14. We sent three letters, complete with picture evidence to their main office in Richmond voicing our concerns and they were never answered. This doesn't include the several complaint letters we sent to the apartment office. We finally contacted the Better Business Bureau and they contacted United Dominion. UD sent this to the BBB, but not to us (complete with grammarical errors):
"We feel that we have provided the best possible service for this resident, the Community Director was actually a little take aback by the consumers complaints. We have no knowledge of any oustanding maintenance request, but if they would like to make a list and forward it to the office they will be taken care of in a timely manner."
If by timely manner they mean never, then that's absolutely true.
I wish we'd never moved in here, and we only did because my husband was transferred here and we had only three days to find a place to live. This was the only available apartment in our price range, and I can see why now.
Save yourselves a big headache, and don't even visit the place.
