TROUBLE FROM THE START

I have been here for two months, and I had trouble with this apartment from the beginning. When I visited, I was shown a model apartment that was clean, no holes or anything, new fixtures, everything in prime condition considering the age of this complex. When I moved in, I found cracks in the plaster, holes in the ceiling, water stains and places where the ceiling was sagging and falling apart. There was smoke coming into the apartment from holes in the walls adjacent to my neighbors--holes which were from the fixture and appliance upgrades. The front door weather stripping was terrible and you could see the outside from it; the ceiling around my windows would (still) leak, and mold was terrible, even though they insisted there was no mold.
At first, the maintenance crew seemed very responsive...but they never completely repaired or investigated the shoddy job they did in the initial remodeling of the place. I continued to have cigarette smoke coming through the bathroom, laundry room, and kitchen. I asked them to fix it multiple times. I have to give it to them that they tried, but they never did a complete job--new plaster peeled right off, hole covers were crooked, and I still had smoke in my apartment! I wrote them two formal letters and they never responded adequately. I eventually patched up whatever holes I could find on my own and had to buy my own air filters.
The weather stripping in the front door wasn't fixed until I wrote the letters--in fact, maintenance insisted that there was nothing wrong with the door!
And yes, the ponds stink and are filthy, the water pressure is low, the "access" gate is a joke, and parking stinks.
OVERALL, things could be worse. One huge plus is how quiet the apartment is. Considering how old this apt is, it's in decent condition, and they were nice enough to give me new carpet. It's also nice to have new appliances, although beware, they promise to give you a microwave, but they gave me a microwave that was made in the early 80's. The rent was lower for a much larger apartment. HOWEVER, I have been disappointed with the staff, and I am sure now they are ignoring any of my requests to get things fixed. Perhaps it's a hit or miss as far as what unit you end up getting. I am stuck here until my lease is up, b/c I'm only here for a year and there's no time for me to move, but I would say if you can, spend the extra hundred bucks and GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

UPDATE: I tried to edit my previous review, but couldn't. I have met with the apartment manager who has been very accomodating, and I appreciate her time and response (although very much delayed) in resolving these issues. To my knowledge, only the staff should know about the problems I've been having.
Bottom line: YOU BE YOUR OWN JUDGE WHEN YOU COME HERE and like visiting any apartment, be critical, ask lots of questions. I've learned my lesson.
